For anyone wondering why no air escaped after the nail was pulled out is because run flat tires have a very stiff and strong side wall which keeps the tire from flattening

True run flat tires are awesome. I had a BMW 335i and drove 5 hours at 89 mph and never knew the tire was flat. The pressure indicator was bad so I ignored the warning.

Bridgestone and michelin are definitely my top choice ....
Just replaced mine two weeks ago and decided to opt for all weather run flats instead of the summer run flats, but make no mistake, you have about 50 miles top before you're screwed. The flat still has to be fixed.

Run flats are like 30+ years old at this point...and so far, I have not seen a single accurate post here about how they actually work. The simple answer is that they are built like hd truck tires (i.e. 10 ply or 8 ply), with a very thick sidewall and tire bead to help prevent the tire from warping after losing pressure for a very limited amount of travel (about 50mi/80km or so). They are an absolute pain in the ass to install, but otherwise, they are just normal tires minus the aforementioned points, unlike what everyone else here seems to think they are. The leak must be repaired before you damage the sidewall. Otherwise, you might as well just buy regular tires, unless you just don't like money.
