How to Use a USB Microphone With Your iPhone (or Android)

In this video, we will be looking at how you can use a USB microphone with your iPhone (or Android phone) so you can sound better than all of your friends on clubhouse.

The Microphone I use in this video is the RØDE NT-NT USB Mini @rodemicrophones

It's a plug and play microphone that sounds great with a built in pop filter and it works surprisingly well in an untreated room.

The cable is an Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adaptor.

Thankyou!!!! Once I connect this mic to my iphone 14 pro max, can I also records videos with the better sound, or is it simply for voice? Thanks! I have already returned a couple of mics that didn't do what I want :)

Works well for clip on microphones. You can record with your phone in your pocket, before syncing the audio with the DSLR in post production.

Thank you for this. I already have this mic, but was missing the proper cord to iPhone connection. I purchased through your link.

Hi Martin,
You don't need the extra connector for powering the microphone for Android phones. The power is taken from the phone with no issues. I just uploaded a video showing that.
An Android phone will even power up an audio interface! Obviously, that will impact your phone battery, but I tested with a Focusrite 2i2 2nd generation, and the drain on the battery is minimal when using a Google Pixel 4a. Best news ever :)

Hey man, I’m wondering why the 2 lights on my mic is not turning on. I couldn’t see which wires you plugged to what so I’m stuck, if you can help me out. Thanks a lot

I need help! I just bought this mic but I only have an old iPhone 8 pro and I just got a lightning to usb cord. My phone is recognizing the mic but it’s staticky or will start to echo etc etc. could it just be too powerful for my old phone or is there a different usb to lightning cable with a power bank or some kind??

Thanks for this. I got this mic and when connecting it with only a lightning to usb-c (rödes own cable) I can only hear my own voice using the headphone jack on the mic. No other audio from the iphone which makes zoom/meet etc not possible. Is the solution just the cable you use or is there more to this? Hope you can advice.

I bought Rode's SC19 USB C to Lighting and it says on their website that's all I need. But the mic doesn't work. I don't know what to do. I don't wanna believe I would have to buy the Apple adapter because I already bought an extra cable that's very expensive!

Great sound quality. Can this be used as a mic for voice calls on the phone (iPhone / Android)?

Question - if I enable some effects & settings on windows using the RØDE Connect software. Will it be carried over to other devices, like my PS5 or iPad. Bcz I cannot install any software on those devices to control this mic. Please can you answer??? I am looking forward to use this only on my PS5 for streaming, gaming recording. I saw that this has a NOISE GATE built in which is triggered by the software. And software is only on Windows & Mac.
So what I'm thinking is, I'll connect this mic to my windows laptop, enable noise filter & then take this to my PS5/ipad. But i need to know if the setting done on windows software will work on ps5/ipad.

How about for android? I tried mine it making a hiss sound. I used the original cable provided in the pckaging. When i attach it to my i mac the result is the same. The connection i used is USBC from mic to android phone, and USBC from mic to USB A in Imac.
