For those of you with Android devices, keep an eye on your notification bar. If the option shows up to choose the USB mode, then the port you're plugged into supports data transfer and you should unplug it unless you intentionally plugged it into a computer. If that notification doesn't show up, 99.8% chance you're fine.

I appreciate the clarification "this isn't really necessary if you bring your own charger", I've seen other YouTubers pretend as though this is a must have, completely disregard that if you have your own cable, it's not much more effort to just have a power brick as well that is just as portable. You are far more likely to run across a spare power outlet than a spare USB port.

You can also use one of those magnetic chargers which only allow charging if I remember correctly.

I got a cheap chinese cable that only charges to prevent that.

That lil conector is pretty good so you dont have to use multiple cables. I still use charge only cable for traveling but thats a nice thing to own.

Problem is, Qualcomm QC 3.0 and USB PD uses the data pins to negotiate the fast charge connection between the phone and the charger.
Without the data pins connected, the best charge speed you can get is 10 Watts...

A lot of these ports tend to have outlets so you can skip the fear by using a cube into the wall instead, or using the usb ports to charge a portable battery and then charge whatever with that.

I just use my own Power Brick, mostly because of my concern with the Wattage
