These things are pretty reliable if you take care of them the right way.A few tips from me (been using them for years). Always eject them in windows before pulling them out to avoid data corruption and always keep them at room temperature and they will last you a very long time.

You don't try flipping it over. First you determine which is the open space versus the plastic spacer in the USB port, then insert in accordingly. (here it's blue) Also you left out the showing the difference between 2.0 (black/white) and 3.0 (always blue) and respective ports.
