How Do I Find My Downloads on My PC?

❓ Downloading a file from the internet is easy - typically just a click or two. But knowing and controlling where downloads go takes a little more effort.

❓ Finding your downloads
Downloads typically go to your “Downloads” folder, but sometimes they go to the folder you downloaded into. Set your browser to always ask where to save files to control their location or use “Save link as…” (or equivalent) for direct saving. Use the browser’s download list (Ctrl+J) to find recent downloads.

Like many, I've had to hunt down a file from programs/websites that dump things into their own default download folder and not the preset 'Downloads' folder under my Users account. An unfun task! Like so many other times, I took Leo's advice and changed my Edge Settings to "Ask me what to do with each download". When I first did it, I was thinking "this might be helpful". After having this set for a few days, I'm now in the "where has this been my whole life" camp! With such a simple setting that I did not know about, Leo has made my life a smidge more efficient. Thanks for all you do Leo!!

The person may be downloading ebooks from a reading app like Kindle, Libby, Overdrive or Calibre and not a browser.

The Ctrl-J feature is wonderful, and I never even knew it existed. Thank you for showing it!

Brave browser uses the ctrl+j command in the same manner as Edge, and Settings > Downloads is the same set of instructions.

In Edge, click the 3 dots at top and select Downloads on the menu which will show everything downloaded to the downloads folder

Isn't it odd that the icon for "save" is a floppy disc - how many people would recognise this or have ever used one I wonder.

I really wish Windows wouldn't default to hiding filename extensions.

Downloads on an iphone is a totally different beast, lol. Apple makes it as hard as possible for you to use your personal pocket computer (phone) as a computer

I click on "Save As" and my computer defaults to the location where the previous file got saved.

Hello Leo. I have a question concerning a Microsoft program called clipchamp. It seems as though when you add a video to the top timeline track to edit a green screen video, you then add the second item on the second track that you want to replace your green screen with and there's no way to grab that second line item to extend it to the length of your green screen video. No one seems to have an explanation as to why this is happening. Since this program is a Microsoft product I was hoping you can offer some help and assistance into why you cannot use that second track in clipchamp for video editing, which it says you should be able to do. It simply does not allow you to grab your second track video or photo and extended on the timeline. Any answer or help you can provide would be most appreciated.

On Edge, my downloads have always defaulted to the downloads folder. I don't recall setting that up. It's the default. Nice to have all my downloads in ONE folder. Easier to manage.

I think chromium based browsers have the same default download location and Firefox has joined the club for the default download location.
