If you were lazy, you wouldn't be taking on a project like this. Hats off to you. The fact that you have friends that are willing and able to help speaks positively about you as well. I look forward to watching how beautifully your house will be transformed.

Broke my heart to think people have left comments like that! SO undeserved!!! Haters gonna hate but there are so very many of us who see how special you are and believe in you, Sweet Ryan. 💗💗💗

It’s very sad when people feel they have to be so rude. Makes me wonder how sad their life must be. You are great Ryan and your videos are never boring. ♥️

My two cents worth: I've read somewhere that here in the US, there are sad issues because many men don't retain friendships into adulthood. As is seen in our society, isolation isn't a characteristic that builds and sustains community. One of the things that I find delightful beyond measure is the wondrous relationships you men carry on with each other: you, Billy, Nick Moon, Phil, Michael, Mick, Ed, Dan, Nick-the-arborist, Calvin, and the entire cast of characters that are part of your teams. To see men caring about and for each other, and how incredibly generative and creative you all are is a balm to the soul. You guys are the hardest workers anyone could find, but you're also all down for a good time, and take time to enjoy life together. Honestly, I can't imagine anyone having something negative to say about you. No one escapes real challenges in life, so you're not alone in your need for support--which is the wise way to handle losing your confidence. You're dedicated to your vision, a great videographer, and you're always there in the background helping your friends and family when they need support, either working or managing their websites. You carry on being you. You're amazing.

Man, those ‘remarks’ at the beginning were downright rude! Have most of these people ever taken on a renovation of this scale? Probably not! I say fie on all of them! You have other things that have to be done as well and Nick’s a busy fellow too! All things in their own time. Slow, steady and most importantly, correct. I love your channel Ryan, just keep on keeping on!

I would never leave a negative comment, I would just not watch anymore……. But I guess “Karen’s” are all over the place, just do your thing! This old granny enjoys your videos!

Pity you took the negative comments down…I just love actually replying to them and putting them down plus challenging their comments and why they make them. Keep doing what you’re doing, we are actually learning from you and Nick and remember, we all have to start somewhere. I love your channel and watching it grow.

Anyone who comments negatively, ask them how their renovation of their 15K house in rural France is going.... yeah, thought not. You guys are doing well, good job, entertaining videos. Thank you!

The haters are just jealous that you have the courage to tackle such an amazing project. I guess they never tried to learn something new. Just stuck in their same old rut. You just keep going Ryan. You truely amaze us with all you are doing and learning!

Ryan - You must be a very special person to have friends that are able to help and teach you as you take on this project. What a blessing!

Imagine watching something you don't like... and not being able to figure out that you don't actually have to watch it if you don't like it! It's 2024... I thought everyone was at least THAT technologically literate. Oh well! For those of us who did not end up here on accident, it's exciting to see new bits going into the place at last! Your hard work is paying off, Ryan!

Hey Ryan, I think you already told everyone that you didn't know a lot about building, that's why you got help! Keep on going, you're doing great!

I absolutely love you, Ryan !!!
Some don’t understand that you’ve never done this type of restoration.
You learn by being taught .
Then you practice what you’ve learned !

Years ago, that’s how any career/craft was handed down .
You became an apprentice
And before you knew it -you had the skills to try on your own !!

Keep going !
I’ve watched you since you used to help Billy at the Chateau and Convent.
You’re growing and learning
And that’s the way it is supposed to be !!
Keep growing, making me smile and I’ll keep watching !!

When you are buying wood always check the end grain profile on the boards and avoid any which have the centre of the tree.

The reason to avoid boards containing the centre of the tree is that this is the weakest part of the tree, it will have a tendency to check and split and the wood with centre grain is most likely to warp.

The further out on the tree rings you go the stronger the wood gets. The most stable wood is quarter sawn wood. When you have a supplier with a lot of stock, take the time to look through and pick out the best pieces.

You should set the joists in NHL 2.0, not Cement. Your walls are built with Lime (probably originally an CL90 Lime Mix) and they will move throughout the warm and cooler months. Cement is far too strong in comparison to Lime - it has zero flexibility. So where you use cement in a Lime built wall, over time the Lime will move and the cement stays rigid. You end up with cracks where the two dissimilar materials join. Best just to use Lime as it is in keeping with your existing structure. Mix it 2 parts Washed Sharp Sand (never use builders sand with Lime as it contains dirt - Lime needs an angular sand to adhere best) to one part NHL 2.0. Pre Soak the existing walls well before you start adding the NHL to fill your cavities. The colour is sand you use in your mix will determine the final colour of the cure lime on the wall (eg yellow sand gives light blonde colour Lime and dark sand gives a grey coloured lime render/mortar).

Well Ryan I can tell you for free, just block the negative nellies as they try and get their jollies from mean and nasty comments, they are all losers. I love you and Nick working together, positive energy from you both.

I want to tell you how much I love your videos. Very few people have enough backbone to go public and say, "Watch me learn". I think it's absolutely amazing to watch the progress that you are making. And you chose such a huge project to start with. I just want you to know, I love you. I love your sense of humor. I love your music. I thoroughly loved it when you wrote that song that added lyrics to match what was going on in the movie that I was watching . You are an amazing talent. I would love to see more of you at whatever you're doing. Don't hide your light under a bushel because of some fool's negative words!

Ryan don’t let the haters get you down. They don’t know you. You’re a good guy with a fun personality. I love that you’re learning all the time. Redoing a building that is 50 years old is very difficult. Redoing a building that is centuries old is beyond difficult. Everything takes thinking outside the box, it takes creativity and ingenuity. And maybe a bit of engineering. I’m so glad that Nick is there helping you. Keep in mind that because of one of your videos I found out about the magical Moons. Many others did too, and that has been so valuable to those Legends.

Find special joy in deleting and blocking the negative posters. That way you relegate them to the rubbish bin without hurting anyone.

Several years ago my hubby bought me a DSLR camera I had no idea how to use. I saw in the newspaper a university nearby had a series of non credit classes in photography, so I signed up. My husband told me it would be “over my head.” I told him so was algebra until you took a class. So Ryan…this is your photography class in a way. You don’t know until you learn! Crack on!

Let the negative comments wash off like water off a ducks back. Always going to be haters who have no life. Do your own thing Ryan. You and Nick are doing an amazing job.
