Step 2: FJ40 Holley Sniper Install, Sniper Planted, I Struggle With Wiring, Mounting Woes

So, this isn’t a difficult install at all. But I am sure making it look that way. Installation of the sniper body itself went well. Obvious struggles came up. And the wiring looks pretty basic.

Some things to consider, get some wiring connectors and heat shrink stuff to make the job easier and more professional. I don’t mind everything looking shabby with wires hanging out everywhere, but it’s cool when things look more buttoned up. I ordered the parts I needed and will include that on the next episode.

Ben, I can’t say enough about your videos. They are pure involvement of your heart and mind and down to earth. I could watch them over and over and in fact, I have. Getting ready for my own Sniper install once the knee can take it. Your install will be playing on a loop in the background….thanks for sharing. Dang, I wish I lived on the west coast

I loved the 'the key with the wiring is not to panic.' Then proceeds to throw the wires around everywhere, rip the unused wires out of the plug like Hulk Hogan all in a mad panic looking for the water temp one.

Still loving ya work mate, it's getting close now.

Great progress! A lot of people are so anxious to get a project done they rush it and mistakes happen. A lot of the time sitting overnight inspires great ideas.
We miss Rachel too. She’s a huge part of the magic that happens on the show. Not saying the episode sucked…
Keep it up and I can’t wait for more 60 content. I’m buttering up the ol’ lady for my new purchase. Hopefully soon before they are stupid expensive

You’re almost there! I bought a bunch of heat shrink and soldering bits in anticipation of my wiring problems. Don’t just crimp them, it will work for a bit and you’ll chase ghosts for years. Solder that shit!

I could be wrong, but I thought the Sniper instructions specifically said to NOT connect the ignition wire to the coil?

That looks like a “fun” bit of the project. I second using the heat shrink terminal kit for wiring. Amazon does them. Also grab some braided sleeving for those long cable runs so the insulation doesn’t get melted or cut on anything. To mount the relay, the thing next to the fuse you mounted to the firewall, just pull the relay out of the base to access the mounting hole and do the same as the fuse holder. Look forward to seeing the next video!

Thank you for doing the video. I’m in the process of doing the same kit on my 76 Fj40. Not much info out about this..just set up a D.U.I system which again would have been waaaay easier if some did a video about it. Cheers!

There’s a guy on tick tock that is building a Tesla powered Plymouth Satellite that is 3D printing some cable and hose mounts that are pretty cool and might be helpful. His handle is mrmoparman. He has an Etsy store and sells them. They’re pretty slick.

Hey buddy make sure you get the good wire connectors with the shrink tubing built in you can seal with a small torch or heat gun good for if you play in the water and I hope you have or are getting good wire crimping tool please don't use the cheapy you don't want a wires coming loose that could be a nightmare and get some of the plastic wire conduit to wrap the wires and make everything nice and clean do you have my new phone number? if you got questions.

I bought that same 13" rivnut tool instead of the longer one....would be way easier with the longer one and I still kick myself for it.

hey, pal i follow yor project in silence from a long time ago. My opinion and the position from someone who lacks of knoledge about electric wire (i want a know more about this for my FJ40) I recomend you to follow de instructions about the pink wire, i mean sure the manufacturer of the sistem you're intalling knows better their product. Just a constructive opinion thant's all. hope to see next part soon
