I think this one is GX petrol alone variant. This isnt Hybrid Variant i feel . No hybrid batching on side door . I think in GX Variant You won't get HILL HOLD CONTROL. Thats why car went back with rear wheel rolling back instead of sliding.

So being a non hybrid petrol alone variant misses electric motor assist at low end . So driver must gain some speed and climb . If it was hybrid variant Hill hold will be there and electric motor will push the car .

Reasons - Front wheel drive vech, long wheel base, heavy vech.
Any small fwd car like alto, kwid, eon can easily climb this. Also Rwd vech like bolero etc can do this easily

Major difference b/w innova crysta vs innova hycross is rwd vs fwd. Innova crysta could have done it easily.
Most of the fwd vehicles, which are called as suv's are all basically sedan cars from inside with monocoque chasis. At least choose a car with an AWD option for fwd vehicles if you are planning for all terrain touring
