I developed vertical ridges after developing hypothyroidism. I also had a very high stress job working for the Federal government. Now that I’m retired and job stress is gone, I feel like a new person. Toxic stress is a killer.

I have ridges in my nails since I had cancer and had my thyroid removed. I have at times been iron enemic. I will have to have my doctor go back over my numbers again to see if they can pinpoint the problem. Thank you for the education.

It's a shame that our doctors (GP's) have very little training in nutrition, and hence, we have the need to seek alternate sources.

When in my thirties I asked my GP about my vertical ridged finger nails and she said, " It's just age." I dropped her later after another flagrant diagnosis.

Thyroid issues can be very transient. MDs have a tendency to medicate it without investigating. When I did, I took myself off thyroid meds, among other meds, and my thyroid has been within normal limits ever since. I have low stomach acid and gut issues due to antibiotic use growing up. MDs had me on allergy and cholesterol meds as well. I do have ridges on my nails. With the collaboration with a functional medicine and naturalpathic doctor via internet, I am off all meds. Be interesting to see what happens with the nails once they grow out.
