I spent enough time in the entertainment industry to tell you it's gonna come out the Tempo is either going something shady, is about to fold or merge and they need to get liquid real fast. No label on the world is gonna wait nearly two years on a claim like this. And while I agree to a degree that Miley did copy a lot of elements, her song will stand under either parody or meaningful transformation.

I really hate how people can sue music artist like this now, plenty of songs where inspired from other song and unless the song is a direct copy music artist should be free to create like they always have. This case honestly feels more like the two song writers are trying to get more publicity for themselves and since it’s so easily to win these kinds of cases now, they’ll get extra money for other creators work.

To answer the question of “why wait so long” … it’s because when it comes to stuff with art and media, a good legal team will take their time making sure they build a pretty airtight case (knowing that even with a good case built, they still may lose). Art has a pretty extensive history so you need to prove that what you’re saying was ripped off hasn’t been established anywhere else as being relatively “common”.

Funnily enough, I often play these together. I wouldn't be surprised if her ex played or sang that song to her, and Flowers was written in response to her healing from that relationship. But Flowers wouldn't exist with that emotion. That's the main component of the song and its success.

WIWYM was a direct influence on the song, something to do with Liam singing it/dedicating it to her and Bruno even worked with Miley on Flowers. There are plenty of songs like this, either parodies or inspired, that end up getting this. Hopefully they don’t get anything for going after her just because it performed so well.
