What beautiful song, it's even more haunting knowing the outcome. People lived on that ship, ate, slept, celebrated and made love...Not knowing their truly horrific fate...Even today I pray for their souls..

Where would this movie be without the musical talents of the late but great John Barry who not only wrote this soundtrack but many of the early James Bond films of their day . . god bless you John one of the worlds great composers.

John Barry's beautiful music combined with the old photographs of the Titanic always gives me goosebumps/tears, it makes me imagine how hard the workers at H&W had to work for weeks on end just to produce one of the largest vessels in the world (at the time) and how sad it was in hindsight that the people standing by the docks at Southampton were probably waving goodbye to their relations on board the ship for the last time.

The film may have bombed at the Box Office, but, without A doubt, this score is absolutely breathtaking!

Ironically, John Barry also composed the soundtrack for another film called "Somewhere In Time" (yes... the romantic drama with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour)... which also took place in the year of... 1912.

So many wonderful scores by John Barry, but this is one of his best

The opening is the best part of the film. You see the brilliance and beauty of the Titanics short life accompanied by the magnificent Barry score.

John Barry's music is what made the film great.

Two things i'll say about Rise the Titanic. Firstly, like everybody mentions, the wonderful score by Barry. Secondly, the set design by John DeCuir. DeCuir did a wonderful recreation of the Titanic's interior, once raised.

In an alternate universe, which the ship sunk still in one piece.

John Barry score for the ship is the best. It's a shame he never scored a movie where it sank as I bet his score would of been very good.

i think they made two different lengths of this opening credit. i have seen a long and a shortened version. thank god they got john barry on the music. it was brilliant

They should have used the deleted prologue. Even if it's scientifically incorrect, it's so much better than just photos and then cutting to underwater footage

John Barry was and still is one of the absolute greatest film composers of all time; and it is true that while some of the films that he was involved in as the film's composer (some examples just right of the top of my head KING KONG 1976, HOWARD THE DUCK, and Walt Disney's THE BLACK HOLE, etc). Overall Mr. Barry was a master at his craft; a genius who put his all into a project; no matter how good or bad that project was. God speed John Barry.

I think the deleted opening is way better

John Barry could have made Bride of the Monster look like 2001; A Space Odyssey.

Whenever I see this sequence I have to remind myself that this is *before* Ken Burns, not after. Closely panning over old photos is Ken's signature style, but this is one example of someone doing it before him. And I would never call this a great film certainly, but I like the premise and i think it's underrated. There are a lot worse movies than this one - I just think it gets extra hate because it was such a financial disaster.

The music by John Barry is the only good thing about this film.
