Intel's Power Problem Is ALMOST FIXED for Arrow Lake!

In the last several years, intel has kind of taken the crown from AMD. A total win. They’ve been innovating so much that really, there's no competition. I mean they’re so good at this one specific thing that… Oh wait I should clarify, I'm talking about power consumption. Ever since the... I want to say 9900K? We’ve seen their flagship go over 150, 200, and even 250 watts bone stock. Heck with the extreme profile from Intel, their latest model, the 13900KS can reach up to 320 watts. Insane.

Now, of course, intel wants to fix that, and almost 2 years ago, they explained how. Essentially, right now, power and interconnect wires in their CPU dies are kind of intermingled in a single layer. And this unfortunately creates interconnect bottlenecks. Interconnects are what allow one part of the actual CPU transistors to talk to another part. The CPU transistor layer is what's at the bottom here.

Their solution? PowerVia. Rearrange everything and make it a sandwich, kinda... So they want to take the power layer, stick it at the bottom of the transistor layer, and add the interconnect on top. By doing this, they can actually add more interconnects, thanks to the relocation of the power layer, intel achieved an increase of 22% in clock speeds and far less power leakage.

Meteor Lake will launch on desktop just for I5 and under, Arrow on the other hand will be for I7 and I9. Makes sense they would add this tech for the Arrowlake architecture since I7/I9 use more power. The I5 was always a low heat/watt chip so no real need to.

Fun fact, my undervolted i7-12700K with a Corsair 5000D Airflow, Deepcool Assassin 3 system is so cold that it has boot problems on winter. Static electricity for some reason, i have to wait for the PC to warm up.

Hey guys! I have an old i54690K based PC. I am considering to purchase or assemble new rig. Should i wait for Arrow lake or take chances with current gen? THX!

Lunar Lake will be way more power efficient than Meteor Lake or Arrow Lake.

Seems like it will still consume more power if the power delivery is further away. That's how it works with standard AC power.

Top would have been better than bottom to loose heat.

It would be nice to see them as the leading chip manufacturer too. I would prefer a U.S. company to supply the most advance chips instead of relying on Taiwan.

Intel is good for Québec winter and electricity is cheap here

Low-end GPU:s are not dying, its what has happened since something like 2004, integrated GPU:s advance make a certain price point non-viable for GPU makers to compete and GPU makers make a bit more expensive chip for their next line-up low end chip and people complain them rising prices when what they actually did was just got rid of lowest production cost model and added another model that cost more than their previous high-end and just moved the model numbers to new chip tiers.
