The irony with regard to mobile processors is; they didn't invest in mobile because they thought they'd never be big enough or strong enough to challenge for computers. However Intel was founded by people who ran with microprocessors. At the time makers of mainframes thought microprocessors would never be big or strong enough to challenge them

Intel and IBM managed to lose every single technology train even if they started as absolute leaders. Perfect example of bad management where the only ones making money was the board and the CEOs

Intel is going through their IBM phase, a decade of ex CFO leadership focusing on shareholder value over everything else.

This is what happens when an arrogant monopolist gets effective competition

Intel is what happens when companies prioritise short term profit over innovation.

Failed at mobile phones..check
Failed at gpu…check
Failed at A.I…check
Failed at fab…check

Intel would be the ideal jack of all trades, master of none.

They went greedy for years. Simple as that. No one is really ever threaten them in a serious way even when AMD launched Ryzen.

If I remember right, Galsinger was upset that he couldn't use CHIPs act money and build FABs ouside the US. In addition, he thought Intel deserves all of the CHIPs money. Now he is laying off 15k workers. So much for the government money.

This video doesn’t touch how Intel basically went wrong when they were ran by an MBA business CEO rather than an engineering CEO. And a particularly turning point (with our benefit of hindsight) was their decision to not adopt Deep EUV (after helping to fund its research). This is how they lost their edge and dominance.

Intel has been resting on their laurels for years or decades thinking people will buy their CPUs just because of their name. Little did they know AMD was sneaking up and surpassed them in the process.

Intel didn't follow Andy Grove's lessons in his book Only the Paranoid survive. Victim of the strategic inflection point.

Excellent video. A lot of valuable lessons for anyone running a business or plans to.
1). Don't be arrogant
2). Always keep an eye on your competition to see if you missed any trend.
3). Don't ignore any emerging trend before you explore it's potential.
4). The majority is not always right except in technology.
5). Employ leaders with foresight.
6). Don't be afraid of been wrong if the alternative is being obsolete.
7). more.
Thanks

Another error in the video. AMD was not always laggard to Intel. In fact, AMD introduced 64 bit architecture to X86 with introduction of their opteron/athlon 64 bit cpu, beating Intel to the 64 bit race. At that time in earlyl 2000's AMD had technological edge over Intel, but AMD failed to capitalize on that advantage and lapsed back to being laggard to intel.

I completely abandoned Intel for some time now cuz all they focused was hitting top of benchmark. Didn't care about temps or power consumption as long as their chips could be overclocked to oblivion and hit the top spots. Completely useless metric for every day usage. Now with all drama about 13th and 14th gen it's no wonder they dig themselves into a hole.

Receive 20 billion government money, loses 200 billion in 1 day before probably spend 100 billion+ in stock buy back over the years instead of putting that money into R&D.

Oh yeah, company run by Wall Street people 200 billion %

Underinvestment is putting it nicely. They sound a lot like Boeing - good for shareholders but bad for customers and eventually, bad for the United States.

Ryzen by amd made a huge impact in data centers as well.

Excellent video. I did consulting work with Intel in late 1990s and early 2000s. It was among the most respectable companies in silicon Valley. You accurately pointed out why it has become today's Intel.

They learned the wrong lesson when they got out of memory. Every time they didn't win a new market, they jumped out and doubled down on what they were winning at. Now they're down to a few products...and losing market share.

No wonder PC sales are declining. Devices are only getting flatter, not better.
