They needed six quarters of play to decide a rivalry victor between Shelby and Willard but the Lady Whippets would emerge with their spotless record intact, outlasting the Flashes 59-52 for a 7-0 start to the season.

The first half was tight throughout with Shelby taking a slim 10-8 edge into the second but found themselves in a 22-22 tie by the half. The Lady Whippets then outscored Willard (4-3) 12-9 in the third and would own a 41-34 cushion deep into the fourth behind Haylee Baker's dozen second half points before the Flashes surged for an 8-1 run to close regulation and force OT.

The first extra session again saw Shelby on top with the clock winding down but Willard would come up clutch again as Kalli Sowers calmly sunk a pair of free throws with just 1.8 seconds remaining to force another quarter. In double-OT the Lady Whippets raced out to a comfortable lead with a trio of buckets then iced the victory from the charity stripe as their defense locked down Willard in the closing minutes.

Shelby got strong performances from Sydnie Seibert who had a team-high 15 points & 10 rebounds, while Haylee Baker added 14 pts, Emma Randall 12 and Olivia Baker had 10. Willard was led offensively by Cassie Crawford who posted a game-high 18 pts, with teammates McKenna Stephens adding 11 and Presley Feltner eight.
