James May takes us through the exciting history of the Le Mans 24 hour rally in the 1960s and the epic battle between Ford and Ferrari. James even gets to take a classic Ford GT around the race track.

Join Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as they travel across the globe on their Grand Tour. There’s something for everyone (If you like middle-aged men doing things with cars, then this is the show for you!)

Prime Video has thousands of popular movies and TV shows, including award-winning Amazon Originals, plus live sport and more. All included with Prime!

Who's side would you be on? Ford or Ferrari?

I somehow miss these little "history lessons" very much. The three of them are always very good at getting the story across.

My wife and I are both violin makers. She is Italian and I am American. We keep models of a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO next to a Shelby Cobra. That’s our little ‘Ford vs. Ferrari’ in our violin shop. ❤️

These Historical car racing stories are just pure gold, but nothing beats the, "Lancia vs Audi Quattro" story as told by Jeremy Clarkson. A pure PHD in strategic management.

This is arguably James May's best ever segment, across both Top Gear and The Grand Tour

Fun Fact: Slough is the location of “The Office”.
They chose it because they couldn’t imagine a place more boring

I know the real story behind the race in '66 and the development of the GT40, and just saw 'Ford v, Ferrari' this weekend. Superb film. As a cinema fan I appreciate the needs of condensing the story and making clearly defined characters so the film is cohesive. But even knowing where it was wrong and the technical failures such as tracks not looking right and glowing hot metal being handled bare handed five minutes later, I found the film very well done and enjoyable. All that being said I'd prefer a 12 hour long film about it written and dircted by James May.

One of the best history flashbacks ever in both top gear and grand tour!

Crazy how most of the time this saga gets framed as an underdog story, when in reality it was a massive corporation throwing vast resources into a project purely stomp the little guy out of spite.

James May's the best person to describe the classic cars 👍

Always a pleasure to hear James. I'm not sure if he intentionally abbreviated the Ford/Ferrari initial meeting(s) story or is unaware of the actual history. I met Roy Lund mere days before his relatively recent death. We discussed the meetings with Enzo. There were actual two meetings. The first meeting was the technical team that went over with he as their engineering head. All went well in that initial meeting and Ford then sent over the accountants and so-called "suits". That, of course, was the end of the deal.

Considering Ford's treatment of Aston Martin I think Ferrari dodged a bullet there.
I don't even like Ferrari but would still be on their side.
Ford's approach is a bit like a billionaire owning a football team and just throwing loads of money at it until they win the championship.
I will admit that the GT40 is easily one of the coolest cars ever seen at Le Mans.

Bit of irony they had Captain Slow do a docu on one of the fastest cars ever. I really do enjoy anything he does.

I'd love a collection of just these historical/retrospective films. As great as the adventuring and comedy are.. these films are legitimately some of the best work they've ever done.

Finally a new favorite rivalry. I'm tired of rewatching Clarkson's favorite one.
