Gennaro Gattuso was known in World Football to be an aggressive and intimidating figure. His playing style was based on physicality, stamina, and determination. This is why it is so rare to see him being humbled. Of course, by no other than the legendary AC Milan icon and captain, Paolo Maldini. Watch how Maldini establishes his authority and shuts down Gattuso's troublemaking antics to secure the safety of their win versus Juventus.

AC Milan vs Juventus 2005/2006.

Maldini was Milan, Gerrard was Liverpool, Totti was Roma, Puyol was Barcelona, and Buffon was Juventus. Loved these club legends.

When Gattuso respects you and almost immediately listens to you, you know you the greatest defender of all-time

There are very few people who can make Genarro shut up, shows how great of a leader he was.

Maldini was probably literally the only player alive who could talk to Gattuso this way. Maldini is the greatest defender of all-time, and the embodiment of Milan.

Top notch leadership. Maldini was, and still is, a global treasure. My definition of a perfect footballer. Hope one day Milan rise to being a top team once again. I love 2000's football, where there were so many elite clubs in every league.

Man, the sheer amount of legends in this clip alone is rediclous.

Maldini is a pure example of how a player should be aggressive without actually being physically aggressive. What a player man

Man, I just miss early 2000's football. It was different level with so many legends. Champions League nights were amazing.

Best defender ever. Great leader on and off the pitch for Milan. A legend. Much respect from a Madrid fan.

Damn, this gave me chills. He's winning 3-0 and yet the concentration levels are at max, nothing is won yet. It was an honour to be scolded by this man. Il Capitano, I don't think there will ever be another like him.

For anyone who didn’t see maldini in his prime, go back and watch stuff, he’s a defender so I know it’s not as exciting as loads of goals but trust me this man was class, his touch was magnificent, he could pass a ball anywhere, he was quicker than you would think and he had a football brain like no other .

For those fans who don't speak Italian: Maldini actually says "Stai muto". It's a very harsh version of shut up (perhaps a better translation is shut the f* up). It's typically used in the army and in situations whereby the person who says it wants to underlie his authority. In football, only the captain or an older player can say that to a younger team mate.

Stam tackling Nedved, Gattuso fighting and Maldini shutting him up, Ibrahimovic laughing there, Juve with Buffon, Del Piero, Cannavaro, Thuram, Trezeguet, and Camoranesi.
Milan with Nesta, Dida, Pirlo, Kaka, Inzaghi, Shevchenko.

Oh my god I used to LOVE football back in the day, my childhood was great watching all those legends.

Football now is just a few talented players scattered around a few clubs, and the clubs with money gets all of them.
And no matter how talented they are, they arent at this level, those men were at war! It was a matter of life or death for them, the spirit the competition, Football was so so much better and fun to watch.
