When I hang out with friends it's our spare time and we want to entertain ourselves - it's not a friggin business conveniention. Being able to just play video games with my friends is one of the reasons I work hard.

I want colleagues that inspire me at work but I don't need my friends to talk shop.

I feel like people get his message wrong. What he is basically saying is that you can befriend everyone, but you should keep in mind that everybody in your life has an impact on you. Also people are multidimensional: You can have an amazing time with someone partying, but a really hard time lending him money. You should learn to surround yourself with the right people in the right situation. But there are some people you can call "inner circle" because they are so fitting for you in almost every situation.

It’s just about understanding where you’re allocating your time between family and friends, and yes sometimes this means limiting the amount of time with certain family members.
