As a Slavic person I'd say our mythology is severely underappreciated. People, it's not just Baba Yaga.

The reason why Slavic and Norse mythology are similar (along with Greco-Roman, Celtic, Persian, and Hindu)is because the mythologies have the same Proto-Indo-European roots.

Loki wasn't really anyone's nemesis, they were just a chaotic bastard. So was Odin, Odin loved trickery, he disguised himself all the time to test the hearts of men and exchange fun riddles. Loki just happened to kill Balder.

Fun fact: in polish there is proverb: Let the thunderbolt hit him ( niech go piorun trzaśnie) - we say this when we are annoyed at somebody. This proverb comes from different version Let Perun hit him (Niech go Perun trzaśnie). In polish we have change Perun to piorun

Eh, Veles isn't really *evil* so much as he is a horned god who lives underground, and, well... the people who wrote this stuff down were Christian and jumped to conclusions
Also, Veles and Perun both punish oathbreakers, but where Perun just smites them with lightning, Veles smites them with diseases

I’m no Norse mythological expert(hell im barely scratching the surface of being called a novice) but I don’t think Loki and Thor were enemies until Ragnarok, now he didn’t like the guy(probably had some hate in him for him) but he was practically his uncle being a blood sworn brother of Odin

Considering the the Slavic and Norse come from similar origins of culture it makes sense that they're thunder gods are similar as well

Well yes. I’m a Slavic Pagan and we do have some similar things to the Nords. But that’s because we’re both Indo-European and live quite close to eachother. But, other Gods besides Perun are not the same to the Nordes. For example Odin their allfather and Svarog our allfather are literaly nothing alike.

Veles isn’t mean though
He was valued as much as perun
Also perun had an axe

Genuinely amazes me how cultures from thousands of miles and years apart from each other have the same god's. Really says something about the human animal

And it’s here I learn how Robert Jordan came up with the name for Perrin in the Wheel of Time.
