Why Solitude Heals: Carl Jung’s Insights on the Power of Being Alone

In this video, we explore the transformative power of solitude through the insights of Carl Jung, one of the most profound thinkers in psychology. Jung believed that solitude was not merely a lack of companionship, but a unique path to self-discovery, healing, and individuation. By being alone with ourselves, we can uncover hidden strengths and inner truths, as Jung describes in his journey with the unconscious.

Through quotes from Jung’s works, we reflect on how true solitude can help us understand our own psyche, providing us with an “indestructible foundation” that no external force can replace. As Jung wrote, “Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself…” This profound loneliness can actually deepen our sensitivity to companionship, allowing us to value relationships in which individuality is preserved rather than compromised.

In this video, I also discuss how we can become attuned to the inner feeling that tells us when a relationship may not be right for us—when it suppresses our true selves, often in subtle, unintended ways. These coercive dynamics can stifle our journey toward self-realization, or individuation, and recognizing them is key to breaking free and moving forward in life.

Join me as we dive into Jung’s wisdom on solitude, and learn how to listen to the quiet voice within that guides us toward authentic, fulfilling relationships and inner peace.

so important to underscore this - society gets nervous if I relish my solitude (Solitude is the Queen of Silence?) I've left life long friends behind, I dont make new friends, I am making progress training myself to write and create music not directed for a target audience...but still struggle with it - as I get better at creating for my own aesthetic sensibilities - it is feeling so - what's the word - comfortable, warm, real, without style, confirming maybe - oh - this is who I have become...."I've followed you on this lonely mountain path so long - now I speak a language no one seems to understand." Not complaining, just acknowledging my situation - "joyfully participating in the sorrows of the world" - Joe C.

The last 7 minutes were fabulous and resonated with my experience - Have you written how these ideas actually unfolded in your life - We have so much theory and so few reports of individuating ...Please report your experience...As I listened to the last 5 minutes I thought about people hearing this without having first experienced it - they would not understand it from only your concepts...examples would help a lot.

All the things you wrote seem so close to my own experience, right now, that you might have been describing me. Down to every small detail too. So i'm feeling a bit bewildered. But anyway, its not necessarily like its much fun at all either. In many ways i feel as if id far rather to not even be here. But here i am anyway.

Technology such as social media, might not necessarily cause us half the problems that it has been right now, if in fact we would live within closer knit cooperative capitalist families
