I live on the coast of Mississippi, been through Katrina and many others. Katrina hit Mississippi not New Orleans. Katrina took 12 hours to go over us, it was so slow. Storm surge was 28 feet on the coast, so go look up 28 feet and yeah that was under water. We had a winds 80-130 mph for 12 hours, so not much was left. It is like a really large tornado sits on top of you and never ever moves. Most things built today can withstand 130 mph wind gusts - not 130 mph for 12 hours.

The difference between tornados and hurricanes is primarily scale.

Tornados width are usually on the scale of meters or a few km and last minutes to hours. So you’d be able to see the whole thing from a distance with a clear view.

Hurricanes are much much larger with even the eye of calm air in the middle being multiple km across. So you’re never going to see the entire thing unless you were way out in space. Hurricanes form out in the ocean and usually last days to weeks before petering out.

You should react to “A journey to the end of the universe” by Cool Worlds! It’s a really good video that goes into time dilation, Lorenz factors, and a bunch of other stuff.

Quick correction: Hurricane patricia with recorded windspeed at 215MPH was actually back in 2015

A hurricane forms over a bidy of water (hence why they're common in Florida which is where i live) and then thry move ffrom water to land. A tornado forms from land and doesnt need a body pf water to form. They're almost the same but how they're able to form is different. I'm not a meteorologist so i can't tell you much without knowing if it's accurate so that's what I do know. Hope that helps!

Hurricane Florence was 500 miles wide. The eye was 12 miles wide. It was a category 4 hurricane. It caused over $35 billion in damages. It caused 54 deaths. The ground and roads were covered with trees that had fallen. Roads going in and out of Wilmington, North Carolina were flooded. No vehicles could go in or out of Wilmington. This meant no food etc could be delivered to grocery stores. Grocery stores and restaurants had to throw away tons of food because the electricity had gone out. But despite all of this President Trump sent FEMA to clean everything up. And President Trump came to Wilmington and handed out meals to residents.
