Just a comment on the lengthening nail bed… I too recently changed the shape of my nails completely with a little extra care. And I’m 66! (Where were you when I was 20? 🤣)

I had the same kind of shell-shaped nails that went flat and splayed out at the end. They had ridges that split horizontally mostly, but sometimes also vertically. They were super thin and often ripped into where the nail was still attached and had to be filed right back, thereby shortening the nail bed.

From your past videos I learned how to remove cuticles and gently push back the nail fold. I started using a glass nail file, to take hair, skin and nail supplements, and to use a protective coat of nail polish. When the nails started to grow stronger, they stopped being flat at the top: and, as they weren’t breaking, the attachment to the nail bed at the top gradually crept up, resulting in that longer looking nail bed. For a while you could actually see a darker line where the nail was newly re-attaching. Regular cuticle removal and gentle pushing back of the nail fold has also made the nail bed longer.

My nails are continuing to look narrower, straighter at the sides and more curved and I realise that the shape of my nails was caused by the nail being too thin to hold a curve once past the nail bed. So more from lack of nurture than nature.

I hope this encourages others to persevere. You started this. 🤗 Many thanks. ❤️

Omg 9:41 this is actually possible?? That’s what I’ve always wanted, I’ve always been embarrassed of my fingernails, I thought you were born with long fingernail beds, or you weren't. Wow…that’s amazing, excellent job!

I started following Anna's advice by:
- pushing back the proximal nail fold bit by bit every day
- massage my nails and the skin around my nails with the essie cutcicle oil
- apply clear nail polish/strengthener
- file my nails into a soft oval shape

After 2 weeks, my nail bed seems to be longer and more slender. I believe that it's actually from pushing back the skin around me nails and therefore causes an illusion of longer nail bed. You'd be surprised by how much you can push back. Of course, be gentle, take your time and slowly you'll get there.

Thank you so much Anna! Your advice has changed my nails for the better! I used to not shape my nails and let them grow out really long until I cut the free edge super close to the skin again. I also had a lot of hang nails and ripped skin around my nails as well. I tried using gel polish and after removing them, my nails felt super dry and damaged. After following your advice, my nails have never looked this good before!!!

You won me over when you recommended short nails for busy hands. I subscribed right then

I have quite short nail beds and am always envious of people whose are super long! Still, I've noticed taking better care of my nails helps elongate the look of them. Thank you as always Anna 🤗

This is the video I needed. Lengthening my nail beds would be a dream come true. I’m totally cool with it taking six months or however long it takes. My sister has perfectly shaped nails and long fingers; I’ve felt like the redheaded step sister my whole life. I can’t change my stubby fingers but I can get the illusion of longer nails with your guidance.

I have a blue dot in the palm of my hand that I got at least 40 years ago and it is where I accidentally stabbed my palm with a pencil tip. That might be what happened here, maybe?
I love your channel!! I follow you because I have the same philosophy as you in my salon. It is so refreshing to find someone who cares as much about nail health as I do. Thank you Anna for your videos!

Oh Anna! ❤️ Thank you for sharing my nails and giving the advice. I would never have thought that shaping the nail would slowly make the actual nail change shape. I have always liked the square look of nails but now I think that hasn't helped at all. My Mother and oldest child have amazing long nail beds and its a pity I didn't inherited those!
I have been watching all the videos and have started to make changes to my routine with adding jojoba oil after washing my hands (when I can!) and a nail oil after my shower in the morning and at night etc. I am yet to purchase a urea based hand cream, and will be doing so today as my normal hand cream isn't as moisturising around my nails as I need.
I will definitely take some updated photos in a few weeks (Ive only started doing a better routine on my nails a week or so ago) and will email you the photos. I can tell you now I have already seen a big difference to the skin around the nail just in this short time (and wow, I didn't realise how my skin and nails looked close up!!! 🤣). Regarding the blue dot, I will also see if the care routine makes it go away. Its seems more than a coincidence that its on the same finger as the ridge in the nail.
I bought the Malaga Scientifique K+ but now not sure if I should use it or not. I've only put it on my nails once or twice. I will hold off from using it and just do the care routine that you suggested before putting on hardeners etc as these might do the opposite if used unnecessarily!!
Thanks again! Such incredible knowledge that you are freely passing on. ❤️

Shaping is so difficult. I try to due a low maintenance shape that mimics cuticle. I love see a masterclass shaping all common shapes. I am always envy long nail bed girls that make square so beautiful. Their short actually looks long to me 😫.

I really believe that keeping polish on flat/aging dry nails stabilizes the moisture level in the nail plate reducing the soaking and dehydrating cycles that occur. This allows the flattened nail to return to a more pronounced C curve throughout the nail plate. Or at least that is the experience with my own old flat super dry nails. ;) Can't wait to see followup pics!

So impressed by this. I thought nothing could be done about nail shape! Thank you so much. Yes let's have shaping and filing in detail please.

I’ve been watching your videos for about a week now. I’ve learned so much! I’ve always disliked the shape of my nails. My sister got the perfectly shaped nails, but I think after watching this video there is still hope for me. I have a lot of work to do and certainly have to find the patience to let this work. I’m so thankful one of your videos came through my feed. It was just what I needed.

Just the video I was after! I'm hoping to change the shape of my nails and it's great to know that, over time, it's possible. Good luck to Monica, I'm so glad she sent in her photos.

I used to have lovely long nails when I was in my teens & twenties. I always got compliments, some thought they were false because they were too perfect!

As the years went on, I stopped taking care of them. I recently found a photo of how they looked. They were flat, had verticle lines & although they were long, they just didn't look very 'pretty' or strong.

I then started wearing a nail strengthener every day & using creams & oils daily, I also regularly filed them. Today I can absolutely say that my nails look completely different to the pics from before. So yes! As was said in this video, just looking after them & giving them some regular TLC can make a big difference.

Be patient. Before you know it you'll forget how your nails used to look, until you see an old photo of them again! 😃😉

Thank you so much for this! What a difference! Great info, as always!! 🤗🥰🙏🏻
