Steven Pinker’s *The Blank Slate* is a fearless deep dive into the core of human nature, demolishing the comforting myths that have shaped modern thought—like the belief that we’re born as blank slates or inherently good. In this video, I explore Pinker’s groundbreaking ideas through the lens of behavioral genetics, evolutionary psychology, and cognitive science. Together, we’ll uncover how your mind really works, why progress depends on understanding your innate traits, and what this means for gender, politics, and even parenting.

Brace yourself for a bold journey into the heart of what makes you human—and why it’s time to let go of the comforting lies we tell ourselves. Is Pinker too provocative, or is he the realist we all need? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

"Selfishness and altruism are not mutually exclusive" People really struggle with that one but not because it is too complicated.

Anecdotally, twins raised together can be similar or different at about the same rate as non twins. It isn't even useful to make a prediction.
And there's a false underlying assumption here that each twin would be the same if they were each an only child. If it were possible to simulate a control group of the twin raised alone vs with a sibling, you'd find a striking difference in personality within each vs their alternate state.

Interesting video, though I don't believe all of Pinker's claims. His claim that parenting has little to no effect on upbringing, for example. Several studies have been done on this, my favorite being The Polgár Experiment that suggests otherwise. The debate on Nature vs Nurture is still ongoing.

Computers are idiots. They know scads of stuff but they don't know what any of it means and they cannot apply any of it. They have no will or self-awareness. They forget commands and just ignore you. It's more annoying to get an AI to accomplish something than directly programming the computer.
