People complain that the mirror should not have shown the flashback. I believe that moment of bonding with grindelwald is what Dumbledore desires most. It must have been extraordinary and euphoric to bind yourself to your lover in such a way. Of course he wants to go back to that moment.

Can we talk about how Grindelwald keeps the blood pact next to his heart instead of just burying it somewhere where no one would find it. I mean, Voldemort died ‘cause he made very specific objects (that were relatively easy to find) into horcruxes and I think that Grindelwald will be defeated ultimately because he didn’t hide the blood pact

When Newt showed Albus the blood pact he looked really unhappy.
He seemed to not want to have it.
Because he doesn't want to fight against Grindelwald, because he still loves him.
When Newt asked if he can destroy it, and he answered "Maybe" then took it it was the same.
He doesn't want to fight.
Not against Grindelwald.
