Thank God that's what it was. I thought it was the bodies in the trunk

Just fixed an annoying clunk when quickly turning at low speeds in our 2012 Charger. There are steel rings or guards on the sway bars that center the bar between the rubber bushing mounts. They were too far apart, causing these guard rings (on the right side in my case) to hit the steel bushing mount when the car is side loaded. Took a drift punch and hammer, knocked it inboard a bit and reinstalled the new bushings. No more clunk! Check these steel guard retainer rings (whatever they're called...) if they're crushing the bushings and/or hitting the mounts.

In my experience, it isn’t usually a sway bar bushing or link, it’s usually lower control arms or their bushings.

Was test driving a 6 year old renault the other day. Came back and drove veeery gently over the curb to enter the dealer lot, and it made these clonking sounds when going over. Asked the saleman about it, he immediately replyed: "If it's within the normal range, " whatever that is supposed to mean. I don't know much about cars, but noticing something like that, and then his reaction being less than comforting, I knew not to buy it. You just confirmed my suspicion for me.

Thanks, I drive W210 and heard some clinking noise while driving across bumping road. I'll check the rear sway bar link and brushing for replacement.

That's funny, I was putting in rear shocks a few days ago. I looked at my links and they where rusty AF, I grabbed the Sway Bar Link and gave pressure and it rattled around, the rubber bushing was very bad. Cracks heat damaged and a lot of slop in the movement.
Well long story short I decided to order Sway Bar links on front and rear, as well as rear sway bar bushings Moog.
I then drove today and was getting horrible clanks and grinding during bumps from rear passenger side.
Looks like I ordered what I needed 😎

I’ve had brand ORM sway bushes leave the bar able to move axially but be solid radially, with no noise... have u experienced this or wld u say there shld be no sliding axial movement on a good sway bar bushing?

I have a loud pop noise on my front driver side whenever i go over bumps on inclined driveways. The sway bar links and bushing all look good. What can it be?

I wasn't hearing any clunk until I drove on the freeway the other day & hit a pothole at 45+ mph now there's a slight clunk on my front left driver side but it's not heard when I hit every single bump, only on deep bumps you can hear it
