In the chronic phase of WKS syndrome i.e., Alcoholic Korsakoff's Syndrome(or alcohol induced Korsakoff's psychosis) only a person's memories are affected, while other cognitive behaviour and *responses* remain *consistent* and alert. Ataxia(weakness in limbs or lack of muscle co-ordination, unsteady gait and *paralysis of eye muscles* ) is only seen in the *Wernicke's encephalopathy* . *Paralysis of limbs and feet* may only occur in the *acute phase* of WKS syndrome i.e., *Wernicke's encephalopathy* . *Paralysis of hands and feet* is *not associated with* the *Korsakoff's syndrome(chronic phase)* . Alcoholic Korsakoff's Syndrome(chronic phase) is characterised by only two symptoms viz. *confusion* and *alcoholic dementia* .
