The prevalence of addiction… To start out I want to talk about the concept of susceptibility. In fact, most people will not develop the disease of addiction within their lifetime. Only about 13-14% of people will develop the disease of addiction. By contrast, that means 86-87% of people will never get this disease. It’s not a matter of exposure. The susceptibility is about the other factors.

This series and information has been very helpful. That this quality content is available for free blows my mind. I genuinely thank the poster for making this series available. It’s been more helpful than I care to detail here. But, needless-to-say; It’s been a huge help in my personal life. Thank you!

Holy jeez...this series is wonderful! Thank you. This Doctor is awesome! I love that the science AND the psychology are acknowledged! Many times it's claimed to be one or the other...when in reality, it's always both!

I like how the video touches base on the psychosocial way of addiction. I like how the lecture was set up and how he let the people ask the questions to get clarification about the psychology of addiction.

A large % of addicts & alcoholics have a co-morbid psychiatric illness. Some examples are: Adhd, bipolar disorder, clinical depression, panic disorder, bpd etc. This is known as "dual diagnosis". Often this undiagnosed & untreated mental illness is the driving force behind the addiction. When you treat the mental illness you treat the addiction. When my ADHD finally got diagnosed and treated i stopped using recreational drugs & became a 'normal' drinker because I treated the underlying cause.

I imagine a ton of people who didn't feel comfortable with themselves don't have addiction. People with addiction don't realize the people who don't have addiction feel this way also. I don't really agree with this premise that people without addiction are comfortable with themselves or feel better or any of that.
