I am a recovering alcoholic that drank for 20 years. By the end I was jobless, homeless in my car, and out of options. Luckily, I got help, went to treatment, and am now 13 months sober. To anyone struggling you are not alone and people can and will help you. If I could give anyone advice, if you are detoxing from alcohol go to a hospital or detox center. People can die from alcohol withdrawal, I almost did because I just detoxed by myself. Do not do this, get a professional. Addiction is terrible but only quit if you really want to. The choice is yours, no one can make you and don't quit for someone else. Quit for you.

“Addiction is not a choice that anybody makes; it’s not a moral failure. What it actually is: it’s a response to human suffering.” —Gabor Maté

It's good to know why we become addicted to something and how hard it is to overcome addiction so that we can make better decisions before trying anything.

as a recovered addict, this video doesnt adress the behavior part, i recommend ppl to find community and support around them, and go do AA or NA meetings, so far this has been the only thing helping me stay sober, addicts need to talk their emotion, thats the root of our issues

Alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

I wish everyone struggling with addiction a good recovery. I want to remind you, that you're not a failure, or a bad person, or not strong enough to resist addiction. Please surround yourself with the support you deserve, treat yourself kindly, and let yourself recover at your own pace. Even if you relapse after a period of resistance, you managed to last for even that amount. That means you could last for more. Don't doubt yourself or your worth as a person. Everything's going to be okay. I promise.

I have some substance abuse problems but my absolute number one addiction, zero debate is MY PHONE and filling my brain with useless stuff and feeling like I’ve wasted the day.

Wow. I've just become clean this year after 17 years of drinking. I'm nearly 3 months sober. And it is so true the video! I went through such much BS because of the effects of alcohol, its not even a joke.
Edit; also I'd like to add some positivity towards my soberness. I've saved almost 2 grand from not spending wildly, not on drinks, but the spending whilst drunk on BS like online shopping or whatever etc.

I can only empathize with those who are addicted to something. My only addiction is YouTube. I have limited my screen time but God knows i can't go by a day without youtube. 😭😭😭

I've never had a addiction I can't control, I usually just get bored of one thing.
I hope it stays like that

Read her book. "Never enough" - Judith Grisel. It really changed the way I see drugs and helped me doing better decisions on what I take. By the way, her name in the video is misspelled

Nicotine wasn't easy to give up. The habit was just as powerful as the drug. So it's not as bad as others' stories, but it was still an addiction that I was able to stop, so its a win for me.

Overshare my dad who has since passed, was an addict. It really shaped the way I view drugs or alcohol cuz I know genetically I am prolly predisposed to addiction, so I need to take caution and it is the opposite for friends and even family which feels a bit isolating. I have come to the realization that addiction is totally a disease and thus it requires treatment and counseling but growing up it didn't compute since I didn't have a proper relationship with my dad.
