These Guys are the US Navy’s Best Kept Secret

Often armed with GAU-17/A Miniguns mounted on Special Operations Craft-Riverine. They are masters of clandestine insertion and extraction of the Navy SEALS and other special operations forces.

I’m of course talking about The Special Warfare Combat Crewmen or SWCC for short. Their motto is “On Time, On Target, Never Quit!” with the “Dirty Boat Guys”.

These crazy motherfuckers own the water operating state of the art combatant craft capable of 50 knots that are armed to the teeth.

As well as the GAU-17 miniguns they are often armed with 50 cal MGs, twin M240 machine guns, 40 mm grenade launchers, MK88 chain guns, MK48 25mm guns and even FIM-92 Stinger missiles

As well as the GAU-17 miniguns they are often armed with a 50 cal MGs, twin M240 machine guns and 40 mm grenade launchers

Although they often work with Navy SEALs providing insertion and extraction, sea to land support, recon and ship boarding operations, they may also work alone conducting the likes of search and seizures or maritime interception operations.

They’ll operate day and night, in all sea and river states. They even airdrop their boats from C-17s and then parachute after them from 3,500 feet for quick insertions.

As a result it’s not easy getting into this unit, requiring 34 weeks of some of the most specialized demanding training in the world but I’ll get onto that in the next video.

The Navy SEALs, SWCC and AIRR are a sort of community in the US Navy typically because of their difficulty and screenings. Usually if someone wants to be a specialized rescue diver you would go to SWCC or AIRR. They are highly regarded because of the time it takes to get into those positions. Even experienced sailors still fail and it takes time for them to ever retry, if they ever get the chance again. They are also grouped together because they both rescue personnel. Some differences are that SWCC utilize boats while AIRRs are assigned to helicopters.
