Solid video. All good practices and great topics. Yes you can use any typical desktop for learning. However if you are deploying a computer for 24/7 use that is critical to the network use a computer with redundancy, ecc memory, 24/7 rated disks. Use the right tool for the right job. If you just learning and testing then a old consumer desktop is perfectly fine

Looking into building my 1st lab for learning, backup and plex. Im studying for IT trouble shooting issues. Thinking on the i9-12900 for the quicksync, ecc memory, visualization, smart memory boost, integrated 770 graphics, needs to last about 10 years without upgrading.

Really want to build a cyber security lab. Have bulk gear but no clue from there. Would love to build a dedicated server for hack the box, and dark web stuff too. Do you have anything along these lines coming out?
Cheers mate

Ok I don't see where you describe talk about the server OS. It looks like you running Microsoft Server and could you please talk more about it? Likr where did you get it.

Can someone explain what exactly people do with a bunch of virtual machines running?

Personally I just want a gaming server that I can host for the wider world to access. I've been using an old desktop for it, but I've been contemplating getting an Antsle server. I'm a bit weird in that I want a beautiful machine to run my stuff on, but I'm not convinced that it's sufficient for my needs. I'm also a Mobile App developer so having a server I can run databases on or testing environments would be sweet. Perhaps even a localized git server. The possibilities are endless really. I also considered building one, but getting a solid case for one off newegg is a hard pill to swallow.
