Imo a great alternative is getting a laptop with a broken screen, they are usually more efficient and have a battery so it works as a UPS

I use an old Pavillon as a Ubuntu server too! i5 3450 8GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Got it for Free from a Friend.

i do this with my old laptop however if you are familiar with linux i recommend using a barebone distro like debian to save some ram.

Me and my brothers did a similar thing with a mac mini from 2016. Worked like a charm

I did the same but for gaming. I bought a decent office pc for 100$ with an i7 and 16gb if ram+ ssd, then i bought an 200$ graphics card and it runned games well. Currently i have a better pc but it was a good start

That minecraft seed, I actually remember playing on. That exact ravine I claimed and caved out the end behind the player. I ended up making it about 5 layers high. It was my friend's server, and it kinda makes me sad that I'll never see that world again.

I too use an old pavilion with a 14tb seagate 14tb expansion drive. My former server was an HP Z600 with 24 threads, 48gb RAM, 32tb storage and a GTX1050ti for transcoding. I just discovered this works just as good with a quadro P600
