I’m just a hobbyist. My computer builds kinda started transitioning to a HomeLab before I knew what a HomeLab was.

I just got into Self-Hosting and Data Hoarding.

Currently run a mix of UnRaid and Synology. I’ve also toyed with XCP-NG.

I run Jellyfin and Plex a Gamng VM for inhome streaming. A variety of other dockers and looking to learn more.

As my kids get older too I’m planning to host game servers so that they aren’t just playing with strangers online that are cursing and using bad language and all that other junk that’s going on.

I’m really hoping to learn to optimize this kind of stuff as well because the space I have to put these computers is small compared to many other HomeLab builds that I have seen.

Hi, I'm new to this home lab thing. I would like to build my skills to some day become an administrator I would like to have 3 VMs:

Windows 2019 AD/DNS/DHCP

SharePoint Server 2016 or 2019

Exchange Server 2016 or 2019

My question is, do I need a PC that has 32 gb of ram or 64 gb of ram with a 2tb ssd?

Building an email server is a bad advice and no company the has any security concern is hosting an email server on prem nowdays

Definately NOT a game server. I would rather either create programs pro bono or watch a video than run a game server.
