Black is mostly used in Antiterror situations and roomclearing in build up areas.

Black Multicam has been used by US Special Forces and contractors in Afghanistan. Our local PD uses them for their ERT. They look awesome with matching plate carriers and helmets. The M4s are even Black Multicam.

I always figured the future of practical camo would be bright red and green dots and rings of various sizes so that when someone tries to target you with a red dot or holo sight they would lose track of where they are aiming, as well as bright metallic mirrored patches on the camo to use ambient sunlight as a dazzling and blinding effect if targeted.

black is often used by units that don't require blending in like counter terrorism officers or non military armed individuals like police.

thank you! i always wondered if there was any camo situation where such a dark camo was actually working. for night any camo that works in the light should also work as well with less light, since the relation of light on you to the surroundings stay the same. so i guess only in really close, indoor combat that is focussing on surprise it is used. the moment where you hit a defended terrain or open area it surely would be benefitial to be seen as little/late as possible

Black is just good for indoor situations it’s just one very specific scenario it’s better than camo, camo is better for everything else

I have all black kit because I’m a dirty civilian deep in a city, I figured it’s great for aposematic purposes during a SHTF situation. But I’ll definitely need to add some camouflage of some sort ! Good video

Underwater units will wear black during underwater infiltration.

Only good at night operation. But in jungle, even the dense one.. it's almost useless than dark shade of grey. It's stand out.

Black is useful against opponents without nightvision, at night, in urbanized areas. It can also be used to blend in to the pitch black ocean as seen in the dive suit photos exhibited in this exact video.

Therefore it is indeed a form of camouflage. It just isn't an ideal one. It's use cases are very niche, and not generally suited to real combat operations.

Only Half Life Black Ops, SAS, Shadow Company, etc wear black camouflage.
