In Judaism, a negative prophecy may subsequently be annulled in response to repentance of the people who have been warned by God of the consequences of their bad ways. This is what happened for the repentant people of the city of Nineveh, as told in the Book of Jonah.

Apropos message for Christians to consider on the start of Rosh Hashanah:

I think I saw 3 or 4 online church services talking about Jonah last week & all of them said, taught, that it was about obeying God even when we don't to. That Jonah was afraid of the Ninevites doing the awful things to him that they were known for. Nothing about how he was actually afraid that they'd change their ways in repentance while Israel wouldn't & he'd have to see their punishment because of their stubbornness. That anyone can come to God & repent, anytime, no matter how bad someone is. I look fwd to hearing many in the church have that "aha" moment when reading the Hebrew scriptures. It all makes much more sense because names & characters aren't changed to fit the crime, I mean, the truth.

Notice the Old Testament covenant never speaks of people living in heaven and yet the New Testament is all about how to live in heaven. That is because the Old Testament is about how to live in the earthly kingdom and the New Testament is how to get to the heavenly kingdom

Thankyou Rabbi. Also, Christians take note, the people of Ninevah were not Jewish. They listened to Jonah. They repented their sins and were saved by God.

I’ve never heard a rabbi say anything so accurate about Xtian beliefs as Rabbi Singer.

Saul touches base on an important topic that Yeshu' agrees with. He writes that were not to resign ourselves to any particular schedule; lest God be willing. Yeshu' says the like in saying this very night our life can be demanded of us. And that a very Jonah-esque fate awaits those whom harm children. The son of perdition thought he could subvert the Lords will with suicide. That wasn't the case. The body had to be dispatched for some reason. Being cast into the ocean and being eaten by an animal did not subvert Gods will either. Which I believe to be very important key points.

I dont know why the greek testament used this simile..its quite odd..and absurd..for jeszeus only stayed in the tomb for just 2 days if calculated properly…jonah was not dead inside the fish..and ofcourse jonah never died for the sins of the people of Nineveh…
But rather jezeus death jas a similarity to that of tammuz…
Shanah Tova Rabbi Tovia❤❤❤

We fail at times to recall IDIOMS!
And we fail to realise that Scriptures, too, contain idioms and Symbolic language.
The expression " IN THE BELLY OF A WHALE/ FISH, " literally means AN EXTREME STATE OF DEPRESSION.
We have the same Idiom in the Quran, where Allah uses the term for Adam too.

Today we have a phrase " Down the dumps." Does this mean that a person has gone to a rubbish tip? No. It means we are depressed.
Thank you Rabbi..Shalom.
