Rookie here and learning the hard way as I go. My first tincture was purple dead nettle in 190 proof everclear. 🤢 fortunately I dried some to add to tea to help with allergies. 2nd mistake, I put honey into it hoping to make it more like an elixir and more palatable. Seems honey and alcohol don't mix too well. I will use it in a tea to evaporate the alcohol but I was hoping for a dose of a few drops in the spring when allergies season is in full swing instead of drinking tea all day.
I also made an anti inflammatory tumeric, black pepper and ginger tincture same proof, same issue with the additional issue of the tumeric staining my mouth. I've since cut the everclear to 100 proof, bit I am not liking the alcohol. Doesn't help that I don't drink and the taste to me is so unpleasant.
I really found this video informative. Honey??? I just scored 3 gallons of pure organic out of the hive honey. I do have fermented garlic in honey stored for the winter. I knew about glycerin and I too find there is a bitter undertaste or aftertaste. FYI not everyone tastes the bitter. I do like the idea of using honey. Get the added benefits in honey, it's like a two-fer.
