I was an Advanced EMT (23 years) and am presently a Native American Studies M.A. student. My two research focuses are on plant medicines/food sovereignty and indigenous language preservation/revitalization. My hope is to do a community wellness project combining my conventional medical knowledge with traditional plant knowledge on the reservation where I used to live.

A French press does a great job pressing out tinctures from herbs and isn’t too expensive.

I have found a tremendous difference between teas from herbs I dried myself compared to store bought eg. Chamomile. The flavor is more intense. Who knows how old those herbs are in the store. I think the medicinal effect is definitely impacted. Maybe that is a good reason why ppl don't feel herbs are effective.

I used my corn silk this year for a tincture and it worked great for my kidneys! I started in herbalism two years ago because of how scarce medications were getting to find and trying to be self reliant plus my great grandmother was the towns healer and her loving memory inspired me as well. Love your channel!

I’m a UK herbalist and I create my own range of loose leaf herbal tea blends and they taste way better than herbal tea bags. My favourite thing at markets is to provide tasters to people and I’ve converted several to drink loose leaf instead of tea bags! 😄 Kate 🌱

I am dedicating this winter to learning about herbalism and I found a store near me that sells Frontier herbs and spices and it has been awesome! I’m so excited to grow and forage this year! Still lots to learn but I am loving getting to taste my own tea/tincture concoctions!

The higher you hold the Pyrex cup, the easier it is to pour. My husbands grandmother showed me this a long time ago.

Herbal medicine has a very ancient history in parts of Europe and is considered very feminine and is connected to other skills like cooking, cleaning, gathering, healing that could be the reason that certain parts of Europe like Germany and Norway used mostly females healers in the times before the rise of Christianity. Woman also has connections to other skills like sowing and weaving, making thread, cloth, to a point of its surviving in the mythologies, Norms weaving the fates of men, cleaning wounds, treating it and then sowing the wound closed. One of the old jokes is that the hearts of woman are made on a whirling wheel.

Up in Canada, there is a good book called Boreal Herbal and for those needing information on local and widespread plants, this is really very good. Thank you for sharing your love of herbs with us - it is one of the best gifts possible.

When looking for a teacher, I would say make sure your teacher works with living plants and not just dried plant material ordered from companies. There's a difference between being an herbalist who has studied botany, worked directly with living plants, knows when to harvest and what plant parts to use and in what preparations and being a pharmacologist who just uses plant dried plant material and never goes out in nature to see how the plant grows through all the seasons and creates a relationship with the plants. Learn from a person and not just books and certainly not just the internet. Very nice introduction to herbalism.

I love the sensible information that you are sharing. I have been 'studying' and 'using' herbs for over 30 years. It is so empowering to be able to use the 'weeds' that grow around me and those herbs/medicinals I grow in my own garden for my food, teas and to manage my own health. More power to people who are taking back control of their own lives through their food and what they choose to ingest. Keep up the good work! Sending aloha (love) from New Zealand 💞🌿
