Today on the podcast I have the pleasure of talking to Simon Mills, a complementary health pioneer from the inception of the term in 1979, and later in the fields of integrated health, selfcare and social prescription.

He graduated from University of Cambridge with a degree in medical sciences and has been a herbal practitioner in Exeter since 1977. He was Special Adviser to the House of Lords Select Committee 2000 report on Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

In 2016 he was appointed as Herbal Strategist at Pukka Herbs, leading new initiatives, clinical research, and most recently reducing antibiotic demand.

Within herbal medicine, he established the first Masters programme in the USA, writing seminal textbooks, and publishing research including randomised controlled clinical trials.

My 8 year old *daughter decided to follow her horse around and sample his choice in food .
This may not be the exact right way to do this since she was in a horse pasture, but what does that matter to a kid .
She came to me excitefly telling me that horses eat a really good salad . She said some plants are salty some spicy, some sour, some sweet, some bitter, some are soft and easy to chew, some taste like fruit some taste really green, some are tough to chew, and some are soft.
She was so excited about her little experiment. Herblism has become one of her great interests .
By the way her horse lived to the ripe old age of 36, very old for a horse.

At the start of 2020 I had a big lump of a tonsil, long before they classed sore throat as symptom of Cov19. Called my mom and she told me to boil ginger garlic and lemon then honey....only took 2 mugs for 2 nights and I was right as rain...thank u Jesus for the fruits of the earth and the knowledge about them

I was a tourist in Jamaica taking a tour with a 14 year old boy. Each time we passed a plant, he would tell me the medicinal properties and what it was good for. I asked him how he knew so much about plants. He responded that his family could afford to go to the doctor so they went to the ROOT doctor. Since then I perused making tinctures from the medicinals in my yard. I may become the root doctor before long.

When my dog in India had an intestional upset and reduced appetite, I kept seeing her choose lantana on our leash walks. I would jerk her away from it quickly as I had always read poisonous plant experts highly warn against it. Well, my L.B.D. girl chose the right maturity of the leaf every time I guess, and I began to respect her obvious preference for this plant. She healed herself with it and vastly improved her appetite. Didn't die once!

I am Emily and I didn't even know it! Every morning, for 20 years now, I make a huge pot of very strong herbal and spice tea which I drink throughout the day. I select what herbs, spices go in based on how I feel that morning.🌿

I sought help from Simon with a stomach issue after local doctors (despite their best efforts) had run out of ideas. In just a matter of weeks my issue was gone. The man is nothing short of genius; so knowledgable, fascinating to speak with, and always so giving of his time. We need more Simons in the world!

I've relied on herbs and spices for nearly 50 years. As a very poor young mother I didn't have money for a doctor but I had a very knowledgeable Grandmother. This was very interesting and I read some books. I tend to use the (edit: not sure what I meant here) protocol now. People here in Appalachia with this type of skills and knowledge are called Granny Witches. I find that an odd name, I'm not a witch but folks 200 yrs ago thought it was magic.

He inspired me to continue my herbal studies and eventually become a Dr. of Acupuncture & Oriental medicine. He is a true pioneer of world herbal medicine giving the respect due to herbal traditions from around the globe. Many blessings upon him.❤🙏🏿
