Windows 11 - Move Taskbar to Top, Left & Right Of the Screen

Показать описание
Windows 11 does not have the option to lock or unlock the taskbar so you can't change the taskbar position, but you can move taskbar in Windows 11 using the registry editor. The registry editor will allow setting some "value data" for taskbar behavior.

How to move the taskbar in Windows 11?

1. Go to Start and search for "regedit"
2. Navigate to the following registry path
3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3
4. Change the settings.

Change the data in the 2nd row under FE value.

00 - Left
01- Top
02- Right
03- Bottom

It's unbelievable that they removed that function. As if they have only webbrowsing and emailing grandma's in mind. I usually have 20 applications running, and having it on the left or right of the screen puts all the applications in an easy readable list. Also, the height of the screen is way more scarce than the width, which is another reason to have the taskbar on the side of the screen. I also always have small icons and labels enabled and grouping disabled. Hopefully i get it hacked back, otherwise i rollback to Windows 10 until 2025. Edit: Rolled back to Windows 10 already..

Only reason why I'm not updating windows 11. I use my taskbar on the right side. I have a laptop and it's a waste of space to use on bttm or top. They need to figure it out asap...

I don't understand it. Make a new OS that loses so much customization from the old one. Makes no sense.

I cant use the left taskbar now and its not easy to break years of habit as such. This is so basic, why stop ppl from having it. Thanks for your video.

I have always used my taskbar on the left. It's easier to see and much more ergonomic. Also, a way to hide the taskbar is needed. Thanks for your information.

changing that value no longer works on 2023 version of 11 pro, the key reverts on restart

I opened regedit as administrator and changed the value to 01. But after restarting Windows Explorer, the task bar stills in the same place. Then, when I open regedit again, the value changed again to 03 :/ What else can I do? I always used my computer with this bar on top since 1998 :( Thank you!

Windows 10 might have some inconsistencies with the ui, but it did not remove basic functions such as moving the taskbar. But this Windows 11 is only good in appearance, but it's functions are removed. Even our legendary Windows XP can move its taskbar to the left, right, or top. 😥

When I restart my explorer, the value go back to 03 and my taskbar stays at the bottom. How can I make sure it is saved ?

I change the value under FE from 03 to 01 but after restarting Win Explorer it switches to the previous 03 value for me i.e. taskbar remains at the bottom. Can you help me with a solution, please?

Thank you for this useful tip! I'm used to having my taskbar on the right side (but it has errors, as you have shown). I hope Windows can revert back the useful features from Windows 10.

This feature is keeping me from going to Win11. I always keep my taskbar on the right.

Hello, this has worked for me before until Windows recently updated. Now the registry value resets everytime I restart windows explorer or windows itself. Any ideas if its possible to fix this?

What a pain to just move the task bar. I've been using the task bar on the left side since I had Norton for Windows with windows 3.1 Why in the world did they remove that feature. We used to just right click on the task bar, unlock it, and move it anywhere we wanted. Thanks very much for walking me through the regedit for this. I never would have thought of even looking under StuckRects3 for that edit. Thanks again for the walk through.

So what do I do if this does not work? I had it up at the top before but then windows 11 updated and put the taskbar back on the bottom of the screen. Now it no longers lets me put it back up top.

i followed exactly the instructions on your video but for some reason it doesnt work. i've restarted the windows explorer tons of times and it's still the same. even the code in the settings resets to 03. it's so frustrating honestly because i've had the taskbar onto the left and right side of my screen (dual monitor user) and it sucks that microsoft didnt bother integrating this basic feature in their latest os.

I'm guessing they're not actually removing this, it just doesn't work yet, hence not being able to select it. Disappointing it doesn't work in release build though.
