On my google account there is a setting that says skip passwords when possible. It is turned on. I don't remember doing that. Should that be on or off?

Well if the other party isn’t also using proton mail, they will have to click on a link that looks very scammy at first - at least if you are not in the infosec bubble. Also it is quite unprofessional in most settings.
