Yes, this is a great tip. Just make sure that your tracer piece is square. Also when making perpendicular markings check that your tracer piece is square to the floor..this way if what you are marking is out of wack or not square, your cut does not wind up being too loose.
Keep in mind you may need to make 2 marks, (< and > 90 marking), and connect them for your line, but thats better than redoing your piece. Also, depending on material, make sure you are leaving enough space for expansion an contraction of material...usually 1/4". Can easily do this by leaving tongues on the long an short side of the marking piece.

One tip I've never heard anybody say about installing this vinyl floor make sure use three-quarter inch baseboard. quarter inch on each side of the floor is your expansion joint if your floor happens the shift One Way half inch baseboard wont cover so always use three quarter inch baseboard when installing floating floor

I’m at that point where I’m doing the wall finishing and I’m breaking my head how to get these corner pieces cut so my question is that scrap that you have as a guider do they have the tongue on either side?
