DIY seamless Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) backwards installation tutorial.

If you're installing Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring it's inevitable you'll run into situations where you have to install some pieces "backwards" or in the reverse orientation for closets, walls, or other obstacles.

I was very happy with the Flooret floors I used, they have a great color, good variety of print/patterns to reduce duplicates, and quality materials. I'd use Flooret LVP flooring again and I totally recommend them.

MODERN BUILDS

Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

@modernbuilds I am a flooring guy by trade, been installing lvp, laminate, and hardwood for 5 years now and currently own my own flooring company. The reason why those planks were chipping with that block is because when installing backwards that side that clicks in is more fragile and is lifted off the ground compared to the other side of the plank. When I install backwards I use a scrap piece of flooring, lock it in place, and hit the scrap piece that way it wont chip or break the full piece, or i use a bigger rubber mallet and ditch the block altogether. Hope that helps!

More vinyl installation content is coming this week! Thanks for the advice in the comments in the last one, let's make a good learning resource in this comment section also! Last thing; I'll have the glitchy frames figured out by next vid!!

Ive been installing, sanding, staining finishing wood floors for 5 years now. The original wood floor can be repaired relatively easily and as long as the ware layer is still thick enough you could sand the floor no problem. But it isn't as cost effective, and time efficient as the floating floor.

I just got close to the door frame, remove the door stop if needed. Then lay it really close leaving a small gap you can fill with silicone and then wood filler matched color on top. Looks great and don't need to get underneath the door frame. I remove the door casing so those aren't a problem.

Seeing that original hardwood covered with plastic breaks my heart.

I did my whole house backwards because I thought that was the correct way. Cue Homer Simpson, DOH! 😂
It turned out OK though.

My guess why that block was breaking the edges was because when you hit that block against the side, its not perfectly parallel, so a small section of the edge takes the initial impact whereas with the traditional method, you already have it lined up parallel in place before the impact with the hammer.

Hi, great video. Is it possible to work either way from a 2g fixed piece of LVT? I am doing the entire ground floor without thresholds, and I will need to work backwards in some areas. Thanks

Love the seamless look. Curious if there is any extra worry when floating the floors without transitions with movement/buckling later?

Curious, why didnt you choose to refinish the wood floors?
