Let me get this straight, the Emperor wanted to create a battle station that could wield more power than he and Vader combined? And then give control of it to a power-hungry Moff? And then basically become a recluse and learn the force along with Vader (aka someone who is constantly planning to kill him)? I'm getting the impression Palps might have sustained brain damage shortly after establishing the Empire.

I thought that Sheev's ultimate end-goal was to basically just rule as the unchallenged, immortal, supreme ruler of the Galaxy.
Basically, he was lying to Anakin about not knowing how to manipulate the Midichlorians to prolong life and stave off death, and was instead keeping the knowledge to himself, to keep himself alive. Especially considering that he's already supposed to be centuries old at the time of Phantom Menace.

His goal was to make a slight alteration to the Rule of Bane; where a Sith Master and Apprentice Rule, until the Apprentice replaces the Master. Sheev took his immortality as a means to turn that concept on its head, to where he would always be the unchallenged ruler, and the Apprentice would always be replaceable.

This new canon seems to solely focus not only on the movies' eras, but on the Original Trilogy. Rogue One and all of the announced movies are just based on the Original Trilogy. Rebels is even based on the OT. I want them to branch out. Show me some Old Republic stuff. Like I get that they can't get into the future (past the New Trilogy) and some stuff in between the OT and NT could spoil some NT stuff, but still, this is ridiculous. After the EA fiasco, I don't think Disney can handle Star Wars.

The Dark Side is powered by negative and passionate emotions

One can say Palpatine got as strong as he is by the negative emotions from the Clone Wars as the Dark Side was so strong it clouded the Jedi’s vision, allowing Palpatine to be his alter ego around the Jedi without being noticed

In Legends Darth Kryat felt stronger from creating terror at Mon Cala abd felt confident he can hold his affliction at bay with that strength without Cade Skywalker for a time

I believe that during the Dark Times Vader and Palpatine grew strong from the terror their Empire caused

The Death Star was perhaps to ensure controlled terror so Palpatine and Vader would grow strong enough to realize immortality aside from having Empire to be self sustaining so they’ll focus on Dark Side study alone

The truest classic villain: he wants power, and he will keep searching after it even when he already rules. He seems to have achieved some of what you mentioned in this video in TROS.
