Teaching English @ China's Universities: Job Hunting

When searching for a university teaching job in China, I typically employ a variety of strategies. In this video, I talk about three of them: networking, online job boards, and contacting schools directly. I believe you can and should use all three methods simultaneously. Each method has its strong points which help to make up for deficiencies in the others. After several weeks, you should have gathered enough "data" to make the best possible decision for yourself. And after several months or years of doing this kind of thing, I hope you will build up a great network of people who know they can reach out to you if they need a teacher.

Thanks for watching!

It would be nice if you could make a video about how to site work experience when giving it to your employers in China for them to easily understand it. Also this is especially important given the new rules governing the issuing of the FEC for persons seeking to teach in China that they must have at least 2 years work experience.

It would be great if you could do a video on good contracts versus bad contracts. What inclusions should we be going for? Eg, does the medical insurance cover treatment for COVID-19 (?) . I'm considering applying for a post starting in September - probably a bit brash I know. Thanks for your time.

Hi Matthew. I was wondering if having a degree that reflected a diverse educational background (I have a double major in psychology and history/political science, the last two were combined) makes you a more marketable university teacher in China? Also, could you elaborate on the hiring season for the spring before Chinese New Year? I'd appreciate any information you could give me, and please keep up the good content. Your videos are very informative.

Hi! Thanks for your informative videos. I'm currently looking at some online job boards for teaching jobs in China. So many seem to be posted by a handful of agencies like "China Connection Education Service" or "Engtop". Are agencies like these real and legitimate? Any advice on finding a job online without getting scammed? Thank you!

Thanks for this video Mathew. Do these tips refer to finding a job before you arrive or is this info relevant to being physically in the city you want to work in? If it is only about finding a job before you come, can you talk about finding an English teaching job if you are physically in the city you want to work in.
