What's It Like Working At Sichuan University? | Teach English in China | ESL China

Teaching in China is great - Chinese students are (mostly) hardworking and will listen to what you will have to say, you won't work tons of hours, and you have a fascinating opportunity to study how your own language is built while teaching it!

Teaching at universities in China is awesome - much better than training centers - and I teach at one of China's top universities!

I've been teaching at Sichuan University for nearly a year now and just got my contract renewed for another, so I thought I'd make a video telling you what it's like to teach at Sichuan University, one of China's top universities.

First of all, there are two teams: Undergrad and Grad student teachers, and those can be further divided into the Jiang'an campus teachers and the Wangjiang Campus teachers. Wangjiang is the main campus where the grad students are, and Jiang'an is the new campus where the undergrads are.

I'm going to be telling you the pros and cons of working here, but spoiler alert - I'm pretty happy here!

Feel free to subscribe to see more videos about what it is like to be an American (or any kind of foreigner) in China! All are welcome!

I was teaching in China for 3 years at a university...that has been the most fun I ever had in my life! Now I am back in Califonia teaching here, and every single day I wish I was back in China. I can't wait to go back!

"telling the same joke for the 18th time..." When I was teaching in LongChang, I taught 14 classes a week. It was the exact same material, 14 times. But, I tried to turn it in to entertainment. I tried to refine and embellish the jokes with each class. By the 10th time, I had teachers that would come in, just to be entertained. Basically, if you don't find some way to make it fun, it can be REALLY draining. Of course, that was a high school, not a university.

cool videos man. teaching at universities are definitely the way to go if you aren't in a lot of debt.

speaking for myself, 8K per month with a free apartment, flights, and the long holidays are enough for me to justify a 10 hour work week!

I'm at a uni in Hangzhou now, but i'm relocating to Hainan for the fall semester. Thanks for all of your videos, they're entertaining and helpful to me.

Love the layout of the classroom! The seat arrangement, wall colors, board, etc. are not something a typical university in China will take into consideration. But I do believe they help the dynamics in the class. Classrooms need to be designed in a way that encourages instead of inhibiting interaction. .

This is awesome, friend. I desire to eventually teach at a university here in China, so the inside look was great.

Great video mate, good to see that you enjoy your job in SCU. Good jobs in China for foreigners are really a pain in the ass to come across. I'm lucky enough that I have a job lined up in North-East China for when I graduate from uni here in Ningbo, but searching took me the better part of a year.

Great video, thanks!! My name is Kelly and I am going to be a full time TA at Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute this semester. I've been watching your videos to help me learn about Chengdu and China in general, it is cool to hear that perhaps we would be working in the same location! Wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for sharing your videos!

So glad to find a vlogger from my home university. 我去年去了美国当交换生,现在回到川大了。 But I guess there is a mistake in the video. Actually only freshman and sophomore students study at jiangan, they will move to wangjiang in their third year. Undergraduates are not required to take oral english class in their last two years. That's why you guys don't teach at wangjiang.

Those classrooms look really nice! I teach at SWUFE Tianfu Campus. I teach 11 classes, each is two periods of 45 minutes. Teaching half of that certainly sounds nice. That said,  I really like my job. The English level at the school is pretty low and the administration is nonexistent, but the first problem is a fun challenge and the second may be a blessing in disguise!

I currently work and live in Japan, but the original idea was to work in China but of course something came up and now i work an eikaiwa job. If something like that came up, similar to your situation, i would gladly take it.
