The explosion/eruption that happened in this video was completely unexpected! I was adding nutrients to a traditional mead, at 24 hours, and I didn't degas sufficiently beforehand. I suffered the consequences...

Pro-tip: Sterilize you ceiling before adding yeast nutrients in case of eruption and subsequent ceiling must dripping.

The trick is too put a non lubricated condom over the top too degas, my friends dad taught me that, cuz lol balloons have like this powder on the inside and outside I forget why, but condoms are super sterile, and it catches all that foam and just sags off the side and doesn’t sent it back into your batch.

You should wait for the bubbles to stop coming up as aggressive be patient and you won’t lose like any of the mead brother

As soon as it was overflowing you should have stopped, let it settle then mix again

See every other mead makers don't want to show the failed batches even though showing us what to look out for instead of saying what to look out for will do more help then saying it will happen.

I learned that the hard way a few days ago. One of my first meads. It was only my third and I added a little sugar and rushed to the sink because it started over flowing and spraying everywhere.

When making beer my airlock is a half inch piece of tubing leading into a five gallon bucket of water. I learned my lesson with those dinky airlock on a big Ole carboy

This is why you leave plenty headspace and put the nutrients slowly in another bowl with water before adding them

I haven’t had mead gushing up to the ceiling for want of proper de-gassi g prior to adding nutrient (yet?) but kitchen and household mishaps are a fact of life in the type crazy household I have.
