Even though I enjoyed my time in Budapest and Hungary, I couldn't resist a cheap $35 flight and a great deal on a $44 a night apartment in Athens. I also embarrassingly didn't didn't that Greece was still part of the Schengen zone and was trying to save visa days. But either way, I'm glad I made the journey, and it was a great one!

The "go inside to pay" thing at the gas station is not specific to Budapest/Hungary, it's like that allover Europe. Like others have already wrote, I think it's designed to get you inside so that you buy overpriced shit.

Athens is AWESOME !!! I spent two weeks in Athens and the surrounding islands during the war in Bosnia. I was deployed there with the United Nations and we got two weeks of free leave. We boarded a train and rode it for 30+ hours down to Athens and spent the next two weeks exploring. It's a beautiful nation.

At the gas stations, Hungarians usually go straight to pay for the gas refill, go back to their cars, move them out from the pump area and go back to the station should they need so. I’ve never seen cars standing in the pump area for a long time

Here in Mexico their are atendents who pump your petrol, and meantime the guy checks the air in your tires and cleans the windshield for you, he's the one who charges you, giving a Tip is customary.

The gas pumps in the Netherlands are the same. At night (after 22:00) you can pay at the pump, but during day time you first get your gas and then you have to go in the shop to pay 🤷🏻‍♂️

The “gas station” rant is interesting, that’s the norm here in Australia. The fact that you questioned what prevents someone from driving off is also funny, because we say the same about at-pump payment!

That thing about fuel payment.
UK for the most part is still like that. Pull up, fill up, go in a pay for what you use and on your way, there are cameras and they will seek to chase you down for non payment. I mean Pay at pump is becoming a lot more common in the UK now, especially at supermarket fuel stations. I always use pay at pump when available just so efficient.
Strangely the most backward and inefficient system I found was when I went to the US. I had to go in and tell them how much I wanted to fill, pre pay for it, go back out fill, then go back in to get back what I didnt use... Crazy! Just felt like such a chore and time consuming.

How nice, you get to travel freely, eat, stay warm while the millions of Ukrainians suffer. You called Ukraine your home and your heart is with them, but all it is, is empty words. If I were in your place I would at least be volunteering in a refugee camp. Not travelling around showing off.

Inb4 anyone says to me to go there and help the refugees myself, Ukraine was not my home, I have never lived there or refer to them as my people. Also i do not have the means or more importantly freedom, to travel like Johnny.
