Yeah don't listen to this guy. You need to check your own insurance policy and credit card policy very carefully for coverage on rental cars. They do not all include coverage. In fact most do not.

Insurance doesn’t cover Loss of Use, but the rental car agency’s damage waiver does.

Don’t get insurance advice from someone who isn’t licensed. Call your agent and check your coverage!

I had to pay out of pocket for a pot hole that ruined two tires. Plus over $800 in towing. Then I had to file a claim through both. Then get my money back weeks later. Plus my insurance rate went up, due to filing a claim. I should have gotten the waver.

Take photos/video when you turn-in rental cars, and be sure to include a PHOTO/video OF the FULL GAS TANK if you filled it up yourself (and keep your gasoline receipt!! There was this new rental car company I tried out in Los Angeles LAX, and the car return attendant tried to charge me $89 for refilling my "empty gas tank"; but luckily I'd taken a full video of my car along with showing the full gas tank view and submitted that to customer service, and they didn't charge me.
SNEAKY DECEPTIVE people.

Hello rental car agent of 5 years here and I always take the lost damage wavier when I rent, because it will cover you on all damage. Example: if someone hits you or if you hit someone. Full coverage I don’t usually take because it just covers the car if it was stolen, or if something happens to the tires. LDW also isn’t $50 dollar a day lmao.

This is misleading. ...
1) You have to have the right credit card, specifically one that has primary coverage. Most cards that offer coverage only offer secondary which comes after anything that is not covered by your insurance.

2) Call your insurance rep. Unless you have insurance for your personal vehicle and not just liability you most likely won't be covered. Or in situations where you own a corolla and are renting a minivan or suv, your insurance might only cover up to the same comparable vehicle you have.

In addition he does not mention Loss of Use which insurance rarely covers. Loss of use is basically the daily charge that the rental company adds for every day the vehicle is in the repair shop.

Read the fine print....

Yeah I wouldn’t advise a person renting a car to use your own insurance policy anything that happens with go on your policy and increase your insurance policy either take their coverage you don’t even need to tell them what happened unless the car was stolen or use your credit card. And I work for hertz

Dont listen theres not a insurance company in the world that covers "loss of use" always take the waiver if your unsure. You can roll the car off the cliff and not have to pay 1$ in damages to the car

I’d just pay the 40 dollars…….. insurance has so many small print and exclusions it’s not worth the risk.

Unfortunately most credit cards have deleted the rental car coverage. Only some Amex cards (With $600 annual fee) still offer rental car coverage). Check before you rent a car and decline coverage.

American express has Premium car rental protections, all you have to do is enable it, and it costs around 15 dollars for up to 42 days, not 15 a day but for 42 consecutives days.

Shame your credit card wont save you from an arrest when Hertz say you stole the car you rented.

Master Card Black doesn’t cover 3rd party’s damages.

I’ve seen about 10-15 customers over the years that have been royally screwed by thinking their credit card covers them on a rental car. Turns out actually getting them to cover it vs saying they will is a huge difference. Anywhere from 80-95 percent of the claims filed to credit card company’s are denied due to the fact that they will find a way to say you broke the contract(for example if at all you drove on a gravel road, could even be construction on a major highway and they would void the coverage) best advice actually find out what they do cover and what they don’t cover. Just bc a commercial says your good doesn’t mean it’s always true.

They then proceed to accuse you of stealing their cars. 😂

The credit card will NOT cover anything.

I used to work for entreprise rent a car. I sold the sh!t out of rental insurance

It bailed me out too because I wrecked one of their vehicles, so I know it works lol.

People freakout when they found out their little credit card insurance and own insurance denied their coverage. Not only that, if your deductible was super high. It would of been cheaper just to get the insurance for a few days than spend a grand on a deductible to cover a 20k car.

This hit people in the face if people rented a vehicle when a hurricane 🌀 was coming through and they knew their ass was on the hook! Panic set in.
oh shit, so we find out your insurance did not cover flooding? ouch!

What you fail to mention is your personal insurance’s deductible. With most car rental insurances average price for coverage being $30 a day, a 7 day rental of $210 in insurance is better than having to pay a $500 deductible or even higher deductible for some people and even possibly increasing your monthly rate. Always buy the insurance on a vehicle you’re renting.
