New Watercolour Landscapes for Beginners Course Available Now! 75% off

In this abstract watercolour painting for beginners I use very simple strokes and colours. I don't keep on painting and take it towards a landscape too far! You get to see wet in wet processes and also learn how you can create a puddle of water in the middle of the page when you do multiple strokes across a page.

This was painted on a Rives BFK etching paper 280gsm about 27cm x 37cm taped onto MDF with 3M magic tape.

The colours used were:
Cobalt blue and light red mix
Yellow ochre
cobalt blue
burnt umber
raw umber
mix of winsor blue (red shade) and light red

It was painted used multiple 2 inch hake brushes so I could keep using one brush for each colour.
I used the pure kolinsky round sable and a one inch hake brush.

If you just want two hogs bristle brushes then the best thing to do is to head to your local art supplies store and buy them there.

Watercolour Paper

Rives BFK etching paper. Probably best to source this from your local store so you can look after the paper and not have it posted unless you are buying a large amount of paper and it will be looked after. There is nothing worse than getting hundreds of sheets all with a indent in them. Having said that you can actually source this paper from amazon:

Some people have been extremely happy with the state of the paper when it arrived (and some not!)

I love this paper it is soft and lights are lifted easily from it.

Equipment Used to Film Each Episode

Friction arms

I use this for any photo editing that I might need to do such as stitching multiple scanned images of my original artwork together. It is a one off expense ($70 at time of writing this) rather than the monthly fee you have to pay with photoshop.

Many thanks for this usefull video. I love the result ! I will try it. As you said in a comment : I think it would be great for a beginner as I am if you can put the name of the colors you use along the video. Sorry for my bad english, I'm french, I hope you will understand what I mean.

Another gorgeous example of someone who shares the spiritual awareness of nature being us as well. Paints as if we are experiencing the suns glow in this moment. Thankyou

Magic! Do you have a vision for what the painting will be or do you just let it happen?

Hi Scott, I don’t know how you do it so that the paint doesn’t leak under the tape. I use the same one you do but it always leaks, even if just a little. I try to press it down a lot but still... any suggestions?
