Why Mabel is NOT a Bad Person

Yeah, Mabel is just a kid and still growing as a person.

It’s not that her being a bad person is the problem. The problem is that it is never acknowledged. There’s no apology, redemption arc, or any consequences for her actions. She does say sorry in a comic, but that’s like putting a band-aid on a sawed-off leg.

Saying a kid can't be a bad person because "she's 12" is absurd. Gideon is 9 years old, does that mean he isn't a bad person? Bullcrap, he was the worst and a manipulative psychopath.

Heres the thing: Dipper is also 12, yet hes much more selfless than she is, and he almost ALWAYS suffers the consequences for his actions while Mabel almost NEVER learns her lesson. I get it, shes a kid, but so is her brother, whos way more responsible.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think she's a terrible person. She's not. Mabel's still learning, and of course she's not always gonna make the best decisions and she shouldn't be needlessly bashed for it. But it's unfair to say that she's a particularly good person either. The show makes a big deal in a few episodes about how she's this picture perfect super nice girl, when that's really not the case, and that's OKAY. I'm just tired of people pretending that she's this perpetually good person and that the criticism is entirely unwarranted.

Dipper is the literally same age, and yet he doesn't do the things she does. She caused the apocalypse and didn't even apologize. When I was 12, I was stupid but not horrible.

Need I remind everyone that Mabel not only created the dimensional rift by trusting Grunkle Stan in "Not What He Seems", she also gave Blendin Blandin (Bill Cipher), said dimensional rift and caused Weirdmageddon. I get that she is a child, but there is a certain level of ignorance that can be tolerated before it just shows that a person that can't grow as a person.

Yeah Mabel is a kid but as a character her development was the slowest out of everyone, she didn’t even say she was sorry at the end when the whole town threw her and brother a birthday party.

I love Mabel's character, but I still think this is the weakest argument out of any. She has other redeeming qualities than just "she's 12 bro."

Plus, this argument ignores the fact Dipper is the same age, technically younger, and tends to receive harsher consequences and sacrifices by the writers.

Honestly, my issue is more on how the writers handle Mabel's conflicts rather than Mabel herself.

Hey, if she can advocate for holding someone’s life in her hand, and potentially condemning them to death on a whim, then she can take responsibility for almost ending the universe, and then hiding in the corner because she didn’t want to face reality

Yes, she is 12, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be a bad person. One of the reasons I think Mabel is a bad person is because she never apologized or does something to make up for it. At age 12 you are expected to at least say sorry when she did something wrong. We are not expecting her to do something amazing to make up for it, but just a small apology. But one of the only things we never got from her, was a small “I’m sorry”. We Don't even have high expectations for her. She almost caused the end of the world, TWICE but I don’t think she ever apologized.

Being 12 does not excuse a fourth of the stuff she did, she did things even a 6 year old would know is wrong

Honestly, I can accept all of Mabel's bs, since she was a kid and growing and all that
But what I can't accept is her never owning up to her mistakes and never apologising for the shit she has done
It's okay to make mistakes and it's okay to have flaws, but not even apologising for the people you hurt- whether it was intentional or not is not something you can write off as her being an immature teen
