For those who don't know the difference between Retina and the previous displays, I have both a couple 2nd gens and some 4th gens. The Retina upgrade was and still is MASSIVE.

I remember seeing the difference of the screen on the iPhone 4 vs 3GS and being blown away by the new Retina display

In elementary school, my friend and I used to debate the legend/myth of the 3rd generation iPod Touch. I didn’t believe it existed because I had never seen one, while not realizing it looked exactly like a 2nd Gen. My friend used to say it did exist because it makes no sense to go from an iPod Touch 2 to an iPod Touch 4. Years later I’d find out that my 2nd Gen iPod Touch was actually a 3rd Gen.

So many memories! I had a 4th gen iPod touch, before I had my first phone which was a blue iPhone 5C. I’m so glad that I grew up with the very first generations of iPods/iPhones, and got to witness the long, dramatic trial-and-error process that apple went through with the early iOS updates.

Its such a shame Apple is changing. They killed the iPod Touch which was a big nostalgic charm to Apple users. Apple Devices today don't have the charm as they used to.

My first ever iOS device was a 1st gen iPod touch. Still have the very same one to this day and it still works.

My first iOS device was an iPod Touch 2nd gen that I got for christmas 2008. Upgraded to a 4th gen a couple years later and then got a iPhone 4S in 2012. Now I'm using a 12 Pro and getting the 15 Pro soon. It's been wild to watch iOS and the hardware evolve from the first versions to what it is today. I was an iOS early adopter and I'll ride this OS until the end.

Woah, that 5th gen iPod is quite rare with it being the cameraless version and still running iOS 6. Also, how did you downgrade / get these iPods on their initial ios version?

I only have owned a 6th gen that I got to replace my iPhone 4 (it wasn’t activated). While it’s probably not the best or most nostalgic design I definitely think the 5th-7th gen design is the best and one of my favorite Apple designs ever. Man that thing is so thin and light!

Besides suddenly being not current on the processor, the 5th Gen also was quite a bit more expensive than the previous models. That might also be a big reason why it wasn’t as popular.

I had an iPod when I was 9, but stopped using it when I was 11 for an actual iPhone. As I got older, I rediscovered my iPod and looked through all the forgotten stuff and cringe memories. But since I cleaned it and checked it out, I have now repurposed it to an "MP3 player" on the go.

Oh gosh! I will never forget the day my little brother tried to unlock my 4th gen iPod and somehow gave it a reset count of 10 million hours 😍 Haha but in all seriousness, after giving it a factory settings reset, I can still download and play music. I have even connected my AirPods to it!

The 3rd generation iPod touch in my opinion is one of the best and most underrated iPod touches ever made

Ohh man…I was in high school when my mind was blown away by the iPod touch. It was around 2008 and that’s the last time a tech device made me drop my jaw in shock of what was in my hand. Sure, the iPhone was out already….but I didn’t even have a phone and most people I knew didn’t have a phone. One of my friends got iPod touch in freshman year and he let me borrow it for a day and I couldn’t believe what this thing could do. I could buy/download songs/games directly from the device without connecting it to my computer. At the time it was faster to browse the internet on the iPod touch than on my home computer. Eventually, I got my own iPod touch which I believe was the 3rd gen. To this day, I have yet to feel that feeling of shock again. I’ll never forget this device. I retired my iPod touch when I got iPhone 5S.

Watching this on my iPod Touch 7th gen. I have it as a dedicated smart home remote and music player. I have a Pixel 7 Pro as my phone but the Bluetooth audio cracks a bit so the iPod is definitely useful to me right now. My first iPod was the 4th gen, then I had the 5th gen, then finally the 7th gen.

I got the 4th generation in 2011 for my birthday. I ended up using the fuck out of it, even replacing the battery and buttons, until 2015. It's still around and works. Jailbreaking was needed to make it at all usable toward the end. But it's sad to see how left behind it is. ):
