LFLJ is one of the shortest runways in the world, with a length of 525 metres (1,722 ft) and a gradient of 18.5% in order to help slow landing aircraft. The airport has a dangerous approach through deep valleys which can only be performed by specially certified pilots. On landing there is no go-around proc.Courchevel is in France...

I've taken off from this airport before (to do a skydive, I was working in the resort at the time). What a rush!

That's the sound of the propeller reversing pitch. The propeller actually pushes against the air which helps (a lot) in slowing the plane down. You hear this at "normal" airports too. It controls the taxi speed without riding the brakes.

Balls of steel, with a propeller attached.

Thanks for posting this video. I've seen this strip in other videos, but never from this perspective. There must be a really, really, really good reason to want to operate aircraft from this particular location in the alps, since this airstrip pushes the limits about as far as they can be pushed. There are bush fields in Alaska and Indonesia which come close, but none are so nicely paved and with such amenities. Amazing.

This is a fantastic video. Inspired me to make a video in Microsoft Flight Simulator about this airport!

Seems like a more appropriate place for a ski lift than an airport.

Sweet god the sound its makes! Especially at 0:29 when he lowers the rpm! Is that normal? Sounds absolutely awesome!

I have landed at Alpe d'Huez paved runway, (50km form Courchevel), and it's even shorter, but gradient is so steep you need power to climb up to the apron. Length is not a challenge, but you need to flare at the exact point, and this is a challenge.

On The Most Extreme Airports on the History Channel, Courchevel was ranked at #6. Lukla airport in Nepal was #1. Reasons for Lukla being #1:It's 9, 334 ft up in the Himalayas therefore it's location creates a huge loss of HP so once a landing is attempted there is NO chance of a go-around. You either land safely or you crash. 2. Runway is 1, 729 ft long. 3. At the end of the runway, there is a 2, 000 ft. drop into the valley below.

Most airlines supply a sick bag, this one supplies spare underwear and toilet paper in the seat pockets.
"please remove your seat restraints and wipe thoroughly."

that is the safest landing track surrounded by snow to absorb impact and reduce fire. LOL

Ze turbo-prop aeroplane is the unique feature of this clip...looking like something out a a 'Doc Savage' (1930's) pulp fiction book.
